Heads up re DTV extension in Thailand. I just went to do 90 day report at Samui Immigration and thought I would ask if they knew yet re the 180 day extension.

Waited 5mins and got pulled into an office with 2 very helpful officers and 2 very big folders of paper!!

Asked them a few questions but my main one was what they will require for the 180 day extension.

After flicking through folders they came up with answer that need to show 180 days of bank statements showing the 500k THB balance(I didnt ask about non Thai banks tbh) and no other documents needed.

They said that this could be subject to change and as so new they didnt really know too much about the process hence the 2 folders of documents.

Just an fyi basically and obviously this is just one Immigration Office so others might have different requirements but they did look like they were referring to official documents from a higher source.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A recent inquiry at Samui Immigration revealed that for the 180-day extension under the Digital Nomad Visa (DTV), applicants must provide 180 days of bank statements showing a balance of 500,000 THB. However, these requirements may vary between immigration offices and are subject to change as the DTV is a new visa category. There was no clear information on the extension fee, which has varying reports, suggesting it might be around 10,000 baht or 1,900 baht.

If the 500k is to show enough money to support yourself over the 5 years then how can it just sit in a bank and never be used. Not everyone is applying for remote work so some are expected to have no income.

possibly to show it's there if needed. Like the retirement visa or marriage option.

They always have different requirements... This is Thialand... There will be no easy way.

Note that this is only for Samui, as each immigration office sets their own requirements. But I would guess this is likely to change between now and December which is the first time anyone on a DTV would be able to apply for an extension.

Also you didn't get an answer to the most important question which is how much the extension will cost. News articles and some immigration officials have said it will be 10,000 baht, while the MFA (who have nothing to do with extensions) have said it will be 1900 baht.

if it was 10,000 baht, just getting in and out of the country again would be cheaper.

definitely. But some people are willing to pay that for convenience. Though in some bigger immigration offices you could probably do a border bounce faster than getting an extension.

The DTV hasn’t been around along enough for someone to enter and do a 90 day report.

So you don’t have the visa yet and were just asking questions?
