TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, with a DTV visa, you can re-enter Thailand and receive a new 180-day stamp each time. You can extend your stay by getting one 180-day extension per entry, allowing you to stay in the country for a maximum of 360 days without exiting. Therefore, by leaving and reentering the country, it is possible to extend your stay for multiple years.

the DTV visa is a five year, multi-entry visa, it is good for unlimited entries during the validity of the visa and each entry gets you stamped in for 180 days.

You are allowed to get ONE 180 day extension per entry, (so the max you can stay IN country without exiting is 360 days) then you exit / re-enter and get a new 180 day entry stamp
