Hey guys, I had a question regarding DTV visa, as it's brand new i'm sure the answers are gonna be speculative but dammit it we need to discuss this.

So it seems the 2 main requirements are evidence of remote work and 500,000 G's in the bank account. Let's say everything's good and you get accepted.

My concern and question is, when you go to re-new it every 180 days, do you think they're gonna ask to see evidence that you've still got 500,000 G's or more in the bank account?

Or will it just be a quick stamp and you're on your way.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The new DTV visa requires proof of remote work and a minimum bank balance of 500,000 Thai Baht. There are concerns about reapplying every 180 days, specifically regarding the need to show financial evidence during renewals. Some discussions suggest a possible quick extension process with only stamps required, while others suggest that showing proof of funds will be necessary. Clarifications on extension fees, border runs, and potential tax implications were also raised.

50,000 baht will not be inspected again within five years. I contacted the Thai Consulate of my country. very accurate

Just do a border run! Rules aren't clear yet
Graham *******
if resident for 180 days, need to consider Thai income tax.

you keep saying that all of the time. Is it a scare tactic? Is it trolling? I’m not paying anyone any tax until I’m told to do so.

Pulling money out of an ATM with a foreign card is somehow going to be linked to my resident status and coordinated with another ministry of whatever to issue a tax bill. That involves no less than 3 departments sharing information and working together.

I’ll believe it when I see it.

its called the Common Reporting Standard. Google it! I am not scaring anyone I am suggesting people research their own status to avoid a panic in March. Its your responsibility to know the tax laws of the country you live in. The banks have your details so soon will the tax office as you need to apply for a TIN. If u are planning to live in Thailand long term they will catch up with you. the fine is 200% of the tax due.

Googled it, read it, still not convinced they’ll have the coordination here to enforce it.

Who is going to make me apply for a TIN?

The only taxes I’ve paid are VAT and a tax on earned interest in my Thai bank accounts.

Pretty simple if they want to enforce it. When I renewed by 12 month extension of stay, I had to get a copy of my bank details for the previous 12 months. They can easily extend that to a requirement for receipt of a tax return. If you are planning on being here for the rest of your retirement and they do actually enforce the law and you are audited and u will be eventually, the penalty is 200%. OK, fine, live in denial but keep yourself informed as to what's happening and not what you assume is not happening. There is a proposal to tax people on their globally income, that is the real gamer changer. Stay lucky.

One source tells me the extension fee is 1900฿ not 10,000฿.

And yes, if you extended at immigration you would need to show all/most of the paperwork you used to get the visa including financial evidence.

Roundtrip airfares to Malaysia and Vietnam are 3000-6000฿.

Also, depending on where you are based in Thailand there are easy land border crossings with Laos, Cambodia, and Malaysia.

Extension for other visas is 1,900 baht. No one has ever extended a DTV and so no one can give any definitive answer on that. However, we can safely say that the 5 year multi-entry DTV visa is 10,000 baht. It mentions nothing about a 10,000 baht extension.

Extension is NOT 10k!

Not when you leave the country and come back, you’ll get a fresh 180 day stamp. It’s also a lot cheaper and stressless than waiting around and paying any amount of cash at immigration for the extension and deal with possible document requirements nobody knows of yet.

The fee for a second 180-day extension in Thailand is 1,900 baht.

So you think that's all it is then? Once your 180 days is up you leave paradise by land or air come back in recieve another stamp and you're good to go?

@Jai ****
There is some conflicting information around this, a lot of sources mention 180 days per year... I hope they're wrong and you can keep reentering...
Cathy ********
@Lor ******
from what I read you can keep reentering but then one would be considered a tax resident and be charged thai taxes (ontop of one's home lands taxes if applicable to ones home country)

@Lor ******
what “sources” are these? There is only one reliable source and that’s the MFA official in Chris Parkers video. Everyone else is just throwing unfounded opinions on the internet, especially foreigners.

yes, it’s a multiple entry 5 year visa. Also, let’s be honest I could never stay 6 months in a row in Thaoiland without going bonkers. I have to travel 1-2x per month to stay sane (and get some work done along the way).
