You can do visa runs every time you need a new visa. However land border crossings don't give you a lot of visa time. Flights to neighboring countries are cheap enough but it sounds like you don't have any money. Living in Thailand isn't free especially if you are going to support your wife.

Not everyone has 12 grand just laying about. But if you're on more than 40k baht per month you can use that as income proof.

The toxicity in these comments is not warranted.

They don’t really want long term foreigners in their country. This is why they make you pay and throw hurdles in front of you. They don’t care if you’re married. They care if you have money to spend in their economy.
Ian **********
In real terms no not really there are rules to follow in that respect, if your married to her then maybe she can find a better way

You can enter Thailand with the standard 2 month visa exempt and then apply for the standard 1 month extension on a visa exemption stamp and subsequently visiting thai family extension for another 2 months which is for people who have thai spouse. This way you'll have 5 months in Thailand. You will have to exit the country for sometime and stay abroad for a cool off period and then return back to Thailand and repeat the same cycle. This is your best bet to stay with your wife for a longish duration if you aren't able to apply the standard thai marriage visa for foreign spouses of thai citizens

I see. Yes, you'll definitely need 400,000 baht in the bank and it will need seasoning too. I had to show that the money I transferred to the Kasikorn bank had come from overseas and in order to get the Non O visa based on marriage to a Thai national, it had to sit there for 2 months before my application . I didn't use an agent but some do and I believe they " lend " you the money but then I believe you are then stuck with them for each renewal.

so investing as in stock investing or what? I am looking for good investment opportunities for my funds sitting in canada earning basically nothing. I agree you won't make much ina deposit accounting thailand but 800k is not a lot to keep in an account for visa purposes only. I look at that 800k as in inherentance for my kid someday.
Randy ********
@Graeme ******
not stock market, I don’t have the balls to mess around in that field as I don’t have any knowledge.

I have it in a TD Comfort Growth Portfolio. It’s not in the upper high risk/reward, it’s more middle upper risk category. Before I came to Thailand I went to my personal banker at TD and gave him 100k to invest and this is where he put it. So far I’m happy with the results. In another 2 years I’ll drop another 100k in there and hope for the best. I’ve pulled out about 30k in the past year or so and it hasn’t put any dent into it. The unrealized gains have been good, except when Trump first came back into office. But that was only a small dip then and it has bounced back even stronger now.

If you mean to get a new Non-O then get the 60 day visit Thai family extension to give you 5 months stay that may well not work the second time as Immigration may insist that you get the 12 month extension. Will your Immigration Office allow this?

John *******
You’re taking about a spuse visa I believe. You need to have 400,000 baht or equivalent in a bank account under your name for 3 months before you apply for the visa. Alternatively proof of income of 40,00 baht per month. You don’t need to keep it there after you have your visa but you need to put it back in 3 months before you apply to renew it eg annually. Obviously doesn’t apply if you can prove regular income of 40k baht per month. Hope this helps.
Graham ******
@John ******
You are wrong, the seasoning of 2 months is not required for the initial 90 day Non-O visa but for the 12 month extension of stay. The proof of 40k needs to be from an Embassy affidavit or from Thai wages definitely for the first year and for all years with many Immigration Offices.
Evgeny **********
@Graham *****
Yesterday 15 of August inquired in Chiangmai immigration they said 400k have to sit in the bank 2 months prior to application for non-o and then 3 months prior to extension.
Graham ******

That's a first, seasoning for a marriage Non-O (Jomtien requires it for a retirement Non-O). Did you get this in writing as a printout as people are often "told" incorrect things even at Immigration?

Aden ******
@Kurt **********
you can only do this with an affidavit from your country to prove your salary, most countries no longer provide these.
Keith ************
@Aden *****
this is true for the first year, but not for subsequent years. You can use the monthly method of depositing 40,000 baht after the first year, even if there's no embassy letter available. by depositing 40,000 baht each month, from abroad, during the initial year. I don't know of any office that forbids this but there could be. I understand some offices want to see that the funds come from a pension (I the pension part is incorrect here, but I'm leaving it in as others have commented on this aspect).
Aden ******
@Keith ***********
why would they want proof it comes from a pension? We are talking about Non O marriage visa not the retirement one so they wont care where its from. I did my Non O with 400k deposit into my wife's scb and they know it just come from wages/savings. I'm only 33 so they know i wouldn't be claiming pension. However, I was not aware you could deposit 40k a month for the first year and use that ongoing so thanks for that, wish i knew before haha. I send my wife around 100k a month but for living so it gets used, would the 40k a month have to be untouched im guessing for the full year?
Keith ************
@Aden *****
You can do whatever you want with the 40k you deposit monthly. Spend it all the day it comes in, if you like. However, the first year, you must continue to meet the 400k requirement as others have explained, and in addition deposit 40k each month, from abroad. You are probably right about the pension thing. Some offices require it for a retirement visa, and I probably got that mixed up.
Graham ******
@Aden *****
How did you get away with using your wife's account for your Non-O?
Aden ******
@Graham *****
its allowed anyway, although not the usual way they like it. I have a bank now but for some reason when I first started doing the visa and i got the first stamp which should allow me to open a bank and deposit the money, none of them let me. I went back to immigration and explained and was told i can deposit to my wifes bank account aslong as it shows that the money came from me, then as soon as my Non O was sorted I opened a bank instantly. Sending the requirement money to your wife/husband is not something they tell you about straight away as they want the visa applicant to have the bank in their own name but obviously because i had issues doing so thats when they told me i could do it that way. When it came to renewal at end of the first year i just used my own account and have done since.

There is a line in the sand and I stand with those who think we are all equal. What do you think Donald? Do you think you’re chosen or some of us are chosen and others are not? Answer that so I know where you stand and then we go from there. Anyone reading this with any ability to think for themselves, I’m betting they stand with everything I say. Choose a side. This is the future… able bodied men who are willing to fight for their children’s dignity. It’s on!

nothing like solid advice from someone who obviously has no idea šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™‚ļø. Plenty of job opportunities in Thailand regardless of a degree or if you want to be a teacher. There are some standard jobs which are only reserved for Thais but plenty of jobs for Foreigners also.

I literally had mine issued 6 weeks ago pal. You have no clue what you’re talking about
Philip ********
@Mark *******
no. You need a degree in order to process work visa and work permit. They are very strict with the laws now. Even if you teach in a Thai village, you must have s BA degree.
Mark ********
@Philip *******
incorrect. I’ve lived here 7 years, on a work permit, and I don’t have a degree.
Philip ********
@Mark *******
you got it done 7 years ago, when it was possible. Now, they don't grant work permits to teachers without BA degrees anymore. Update yourself, please.

no you can get a Non O visa based off employment which is then paired with a work permit. If you have the marriage visa then you only need the work permit based on employment.

annual extencion of stay based on marriage to a Thai citizen entitles to a work permit
Ralph *******
@Kurt **********
Then why do people apply for the retirement visa?
Ralph *******
@Kurt **********
So, you can get a residence permit instead of a visa?
Bob **********
Kurt ***********
@Ralph ******
No. You must have a non-o immigrant visa upon entry. The stay can be extended for one year at a time at immigration in Thailand for a fee of 1900 Baht, based on marriage to a Thai, or if you are 50 years old and meet the conditions.
Ralph *******
@Kurt **********
And you need ąøæ400,000 in a bank or ąøæ40,000 a month income?
Bob **********
@Ralph ******
yes and you can work on the marriage non-o but you’ll still need a work permit
Ralph *******

@Kurt **********
what job is he going to do?? Doesn’t have 400,000 what skills would he have
Kurt ***********
@Bob *********
It is individual depending on age, situation and education.

If he has a pension from his home country, a monthly income of 40,000 Baht transferred to a Thai account for survival and income documentation for an annual extension of stay is sufficient.

How are you planning on supporting yourself? Showing this money is how the Thai government ensures you're not destitute and then become their problem when you're broke and trapped.
Leo *******
@Brandon ***********
has anyone stopped to think that OP may have a decent monthly income but doesn't have 400k baht just laying about? A lot of people here are out of touch.
Brandon ************
@Leo ******
Then they need to use some of that income to save up the funds the Thai government requires to prove they won't become a burden.
Andy ****
@Brandon ***********
it's rather ridiculous in that you have to show a decent pot of money in the bank (to extend for Marriage or Retirement) which says you're able to support yourself yet you really can't use (all of) it to do do as it must remain there to show that you can if you need to.
Frangipani *******
Andy JH why direct your comment to Brandon, he is merely informing people in this forum of the Thai legislation.

If you think it is ridiculous, why don’t you address your concerns with the relevant government department?
Conny **********

so use the proof of income of 40.000 THB per month instead. Either with an income letter from your embassy or a bank statement with 12 monthly transfers before you apply for the 12 months

personally I'm not, as I can deposit the B800k and show B65k per month (plus I'm decently insured) so I'm fully funding myself.

My point was with the lump sum you can't use all of it if needed as and when you might need to. You can though use all of the B65k each month.

Greg ***********
Andy JH you forget that in case of emergency, you can withdraw the 800,000 THB any time as they belong to you. You can theoretically use it for hospital bills in case your insurance refuses to pay. Later, after recovery, just restart the process of aquiring the Non-Imm-O and the one-year extension
Graham ******
@Andy ***
it only has to be there for two moths prior to applying for a 12 month marriage extension
