You can do visa runs every time you need a new visa. However land border crossings don't give you a lot of visa time. Flights to neighboring countries are cheap enough but it sounds like you don't have any money. Living in Thailand isn't free especially if you are going to support your wife.

If you cant afford that stay home as you won't to be able to survive in Thailand

Not everyone has 12 grand just laying about. But if you're on more than 40k baht per month you can use that as income proof.
The toxicity in these comments is not warranted.

They donāt really want long term foreigners in their country. This is why they make you pay and throw hurdles in front of you. They donāt care if youāre married. They care if you have money to spend in their economy.

In real terms no not really there are rules to follow in that respect, if your married to her then maybe she can find a better way

Lots of arguments going on here but the simple answer to your question if you want to stay long term in Thailand is no. There is not a cheaper way.

For sure if spouse visa.

As a married man you need 400,000b to keep two + people & 800,000 as a single person, doesnt.make much sense

Many agents will help you with the money requirements for a fee, even a Marriage visa.
Contact a couple visa agents and they will have minimum 1 option for you to stay here legally.

Just done it! Apply for none 0 first. Note you cant leave the country during this period. Then i applied for marriage visa. 1 year. Makesure you 400.000 does not dip below even 1 baht. Or your application will fail. Be prepared for immigration police visits at your residence. Photos etc.
itās not for vacation you moron. Heās trying to get a retirement visa, therefore heās a boomer that somehow doesnāt have 12k to spare despite being OLD AS FUCK
so youāre a judgmental fuck that apparently assumes everything with very little information given. Did your mommy drop you on your head as a child? Thereās so many different scenarios with this situation so you are an idiot to assume you know anything. Oh yeah, and letās see your bank account and 401K so we can see the thousands you have laying around and disposable. Just because he wanted to do it cheaper, doesnāt mean he doesnāt have $12k, or $17k Canadian. I know many more things Iād like to spend my retirement money on than a retirement visa.
He asked for advice, nimrod. Maybe instead of being a complete uninformed dickhead, you could offer information.
and not everyone married a Thai while on vacation in Thailand š Again, so many different scenarios with very little information given. Why are you and Bobtek in a group for ADVICE if the best advice you have is to be an asshole?
you are proving to be the arsehole coming here looking for a fight with two people who had differing opinions, you just keep looking more stupid

You can enter Thailand with the standard 2 month visa exempt and then apply for the standard 1 month extension on a visa exemption stamp and subsequently visiting thai family extension for another 2 months which is for people who have thai spouse. This way you'll have 5 months in Thailand. You will have to exit the country for sometime and stay abroad for a cool off period and then return back to Thailand and repeat the same cycle. This is your best bet to stay with your wife for a longish duration if you aren't able to apply the standard thai marriage visa for foreign spouses of thai citizens
don't speak from your own experience. Not everyone is like you, as ugly as a pigs arse with the charm and charisma of a dead toad and with a dick so small a bar girl would need the Hubble telescope to see it. But thanks for you input. Maybe we could cried fund you for a dick extension up to half an inch
This was still possible Last Year ...Now IT has become very difficult to Open Bank account ...and with 60 days Visa exempt almost Impossible..Minimum IS arrive on 90 days non O
no. It has to stay in a bank. It can be used but has to be replaced 2 months before renewal. I just avoid it all together. There are better ways to stay here long term without the bank BS.

I thought it was 800,000 THB. Or am I thinking of a different visa?
"they won't let you open one"? Not true. The people who have difficulty in opening bank accounts are usually the ones who don't obtain the relevant visa before arriving. They turn up as tourists and then try and open an account.
I see. Yes, you'll definitely need 400,000 baht in the bank and it will need seasoning too. I had to show that the money I transferred to the Kasikorn bank had come from overseas and in order to get the Non O visa based on marriage to a Thai national, it had to sit there for 2 months before my application . I didn't use an agent but some do and I believe they " lend " you the money but then I believe you are then stuck with them for each renewal.

400k baht and you still can't afford? Where's your life saving in the US? Damn
Iāve been here for three years straight and I havenāt done the 400k baht method. Thereās ways to do it. I refuse to move my money into a Thai bank when I can build interest in my Canadian bank account.
my money isnāt in any savings or chequing account. Itās in an investing account where Iāve made out great the past couple of years. Iām not going to make anything even remotely close in any Thai bank.
so investing as in stock investing or what? I am looking for good investment opportunities for my funds sitting in canada earning basically nothing. I agree you won't make much ina deposit accounting thailand but 800k is not a lot to keep in an account for visa purposes only. I look at that 800k as in inherentance for my kid someday.
not stock market, I donāt have the balls to mess around in that field as I donāt have any knowledge.
I have it in a TD Comfort Growth Portfolio. Itās not in the upper high risk/reward, itās more middle upper risk category. Before I came to Thailand I went to my personal banker at TD and gave him 100k to invest and this is where he put it. So far Iām happy with the results. In another 2 years Iāll drop another 100k in there and hope for the best. Iāve pulled out about 30k in the past year or so and it hasnāt put any dent into it. The unrealized gains have been good, except when Trump first came back into office. But that was only a small dip then and it has bounced back even stronger now.
yeah I know. I went to the embassy in May to get my new passport and seen the sign stating so. I much prefer not having to deal with all that BS. Iāve made out good thus far. Sure, I have to do a border bounce every 5 months but that doesnāt bother me.
If you mean to get a new Non-O then get the 60 day visit Thai family extension to give you 5 months stay that may well not work the second time as Immigration may insist that you get the 12 month extension. Will your Immigration Office allow this?
no non-oās. 60 day exempt + 30 day extension + 60 day family extension. So far it has worked for three years. Iāve been using a border bounce company every 5 months.

Youāre taking about a spuse visa I believe. You need to have 400,000 baht or equivalent in a bank account under your name for 3 months before you apply for the visa. Alternatively proof of income of 40,00 baht per month. You donāt need to keep it there after you have your visa but you need to put it back in 3 months before you apply to renew it eg annually. Obviously doesnāt apply if you can prove regular income of 40k baht per month. Hope this helps.
You are wrong, the seasoning of 2 months is not required for the initial 90 day Non-O visa but for the 12 month extension of stay. The proof of 40k needs to be from an Embassy affidavit or from Thai wages definitely for the first year and for all years with many Immigration Offices.
Yesterday 15 of August inquired in Chiangmai immigration they said 400k have to sit in the bank 2 months prior to application for non-o and then 3 months prior to extension.
That's a first, seasoning for a marriage Non-O (Jomtien requires it for a retirement Non-O). Did you get this in writing as a printout as people are often "told" incorrect things even at Immigration?
a 3 month statement is required to ensure that it covers 2 full months because a statement for two months now would include all of July and just half of August so not 2 full months

Bit bad luck also. Before you could get an income statement from the Canadian Embassy if you wanted an extension on y'r non imm O. Alas April this year, they stopped doing that.
what I was trying to refer to was he go to the Thai embassy in your home country and give them the paperwork to verify that your monthly pension income is at least 2000 a month or Social Security income
yes you are correct youāve got to go to the embassy in Bangkok not in your home country, I am part retiring after Christmas and I have an Irish passport and this information is straight from the Irish Embassy in Bangkok
12,000 is a lot when you are still living in your mother's basement playing video games.

If you can't raise the b400k needed for a marriage visa even with a loan, your options are limited to 60 day visa exempt on arrival with a 30 day extension, then leave. You might be able to do that twice, but doubt it can be done a third time.
hi Mike I've read you can't get an affidavit from the, also Embassy anymore also checked about monthly amount check Thai embassy web site monthly went up to
Dirk C. Wendtorf is correct. But the official rules are that you can either document 400,000 Baht in a Thai account or 40,000 Baht in monthly income. Practice may be up to the officer in charge
this is true for the first year, but not for subsequent years. You can use the monthly method of depositing 40,000 baht after the first year, even if there's no embassy letter available. by depositing 40,000 baht each month, from abroad, during the initial year. I don't know of any office that forbids this but there could be. I understand some offices want to see that the funds come from a pension (I the pension part is incorrect here, but I'm leaving it in as others have commented on this aspect).
why would they want proof it comes from a pension? We are talking about Non O marriage visa not the retirement one so they wont care where its from. I did my Non O with 400k deposit into my wife's scb and they know it just come from wages/savings. I'm only 33 so they know i wouldn't be claiming pension. However, I was not aware you could deposit 40k a month for the first year and use that ongoing so thanks for that, wish i knew before haha. I send my wife around 100k a month but for living so it gets used, would the 40k a month have to be untouched im guessing for the full year?
You can do whatever you want with the 40k you deposit monthly. Spend it all the day it comes in, if you like. However, the first year, you must continue to meet the 400k requirement as others have explained, and in addition deposit 40k each month, from abroad. You are probably right about the pension thing. Some offices require it for a retirement visa, and I probably got that mixed up.
its allowed anyway, although not the usual way they like it. I have a bank now but for some reason when I first started doing the visa and i got the first stamp which should allow me to open a bank and deposit the money, none of them let me. I went back to immigration and explained and was told i can deposit to my wifes bank account aslong as it shows that the money came from me, then as soon as my Non O was sorted I opened a bank instantly. Sending the requirement money to your wife/husband is not something they tell you about straight away as they want the visa applicant to have the bank in their own name but obviously because i had issues doing so thats when they told me i could do it that way. When it came to renewal at end of the first year i just used my own account and have done since.

nothing like solid advice from someone who obviously has no idea š¤·š¼āāļø. Plenty of job opportunities in Thailand regardless of a degree or if you want to be a teacher. There are some standard jobs which are only reserved for Thais but plenty of jobs for Foreigners also.
Mark ********
I literally had mine issued 6 weeks ago pal. You have no clue what youāre talking about
no. You need a degree in order to process work visa and work permit. They are very strict with the laws now. Even if you teach in a Thai village, you must have s BA degree.
no you can get a Non O visa based off employment which is then paired with a work permit. If you have the marriage visa then you only need the work permit based on employment.
Of course some will, but sales and marketing in some instances for example doesnāt. Thereās loads of opportunities for those who can be assed to look.
if you have no idea, itās better not to give advice. Thereās loads of roles. Most western companies hire farangs across all sorts of disciplines, from engineers to sales/marketing to accounting and general management. There really is plenty of opportunities. A marriage visa allows application of a work permit so yes, he has options.
No. You must have a non-o immigrant visa upon entry. The stay can be extended for one year at a time at immigration in Thailand for a fee of 1900 Baht, based on marriage to a Thai, or if you are 50 years old and meet the conditions.
It is individual depending on age, situation and education.
If he has a pension from his home country, a monthly income of 40,000 Baht transferred to a Thai account for survival and income documentation for an annual extension of stay is sufficient.
400k if your visa is based on marriage to a Thai. The post is about the OP coming to Thailand to live with his Thai wife, Why mentioned retirement visa.
How are you planning on supporting yourself? Showing this money is how the Thai government ensures you're not destitute and then become their problem when you're broke and trapped.
has anyone stopped to think that OP may have a decent monthly income but doesn't have 400k baht just laying about? A lot of people here are out of touch.
it's rather ridiculous in that you have to show a decent pot of money in the bank (to extend for Marriage or Retirement) which says you're able to support yourself yet you really can't use (all of) it to do do as it must remain there to show that you can if you need to.
Frangipani *******
Andy JH why direct your comment to Brandon, he is merely informing people in this forum of the Thai legislation.
If you think it is ridiculous, why donāt you address your concerns with the relevant government department?
so use the proof of income of 40.000 THB per month instead. Either with an income letter from your embassy or a bank statement with 12 monthly transfers before you apply for the 12 months
Yes, you need to show you have sufficient funds at hand
Greg ***********
Andy JH you forget that in case of emergency, you can withdraw the 800,000 THB any time as they belong to you. You can theoretically use it for hospital bills in case your insurance refuses to pay. Later, after recovery, just restart the process of aquiring the Non-Imm-O and the one-year extension
