Can I avoid the 400k deposit for the Thai marriage visa by proving my monthly income instead?

I stay in Thai based on 90 days marriage visa now. I was going to apply 1 year visa and Loei immigration strictly advised me to put 400k deposit. However, I read in rules that I should prove at least 40k monthly income on thai bank account. I have an account in Krungsri and calculated my statement, so during last year I transferred nearly 460k in total. If I add f.e.30k this month (annual income will be over 480k) and apply next month will it be an option for visa to avoid 400k deposit?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is currently on a 90-day marriage visa in Thailand and is exploring options to apply for a one-year visa. They have been advised by Loei immigration to maintain a 400k THB deposit. However, they believe that based on the rules, they can provide proof of an annual income exceeding 480k THB if they add 30k THB to their bank statement. The conversation discusses the necessity of meeting either the minimum monthly income criteria of 40k THB for 12 months or maintaining a 400k THB deposit.

and whats about the third option then - to leave the country and apply another 90days non-o abroad? Is there any limits in this type of visas?
Tod *********
@Aleksey ******
nope, no limits BUT the problem is gonna be finding a country you can get into (by meeting the entry requirements) whose consulate will sell you a visa and then meeting the entry requirements to get back in to thailand again.

If not the first one, what were the previous results?

contact your embassy here and see if they issue the income affidavit notary.

report back if they will or won't issue it, believe me you won't be the first russian asking them if they do it or not 🙂

So if second option does not work, I have a statement from my employer about satisfactory salary. If I can formalise this letter in my embassy can it be an option?

@Aleksey ******
one other thing to bear in mind as the 400k banked money is looking like your only option unless your embassy will provide an affidavit of income. The money has to be in your account for 2 full months before you apply for the extension
Tod *********
@Aleksey ******
it all comes down to whether your embassy here issues the affidavit. There is no other document you can get from them, no formalization of income from an employer, etc,

They either issue the affidavit of income from abroad notary or they don't 🙁
Tod *********
@Aleksey ******
nope, that isn't gonna work either 🙁

There are TWO options to use monthly income method and ONLY two.

You either do the transfers IN to the country like I previously outlined (twice 😉

OR

You get an affidavit of income from abroad notary document from your embassy stating you get over 40K baht a month in income from abroad.

What is the nationality of your passport?

I would say call your embassy here and ask them if they issue the affidavit of income from abroad.

Some never did, some still do and as I said US, UK and Australia stopped doing it beginning of 2019.

800k for retirement extension

@Rod *******
400k is for marriage or kid?
Rod ********
@Dylan ********
for marriage cerainly, don't know about children
Dylan *********
@Rod *******
certainly about which question?
Tod *********
@Dylan ********
correct, marriage to a thai or raising thai child is 400K baht
Dylan *********
@Tod ********
is there any hassle about showing where the money comes from when applying for extension if you have 400k+ in a thai bank?
Tod *********
@Dylan ********
nope there is no requirement for an extension based on marriage using banked money method to show that the funds originated from abroad. it could be domestic transfers
Tod *********
you are slightly confused in how the monthly income method of showing proof of funds works. Either you get a letter from your embassy here in thailand stating you get over 40K baht a month in income from abroad (NOTE: US, UK and Australian embassy do NOT provide this letter)

OR

You transfer in to a thai bank account in your name only a minimum of 40K baht a month each month, every month for the previous 12 months before you apply for a yearly extension. You can't miss a single month of incoming transfers and they have to code (in the bank book) as originating from abroad.
Ryan ********
@Tod ********
can the transfers originate from your own account abroad? Can they originate from different accounts each month as long they are over 40k each and every month?

Darren Macmillan Actually I read a forum about monthly transferres and it is quite common problem that not everyone get income every month. Someone get once per 2-3 months, someone had delays etc. But in average annualy they get necessary amount
Tod *********
@Aleksey ******
, I have never ever seen that happen. BUT you are more than welcome to slog on over to your immigration office and see what they say. I have seen people denied their extension because one of their transfers didn't hit one month and they had two the next month (totaling 80K baht)

Yes, I transfer from abroad (from my name) to my thai bank account (my name too) every month. However, one month it can be 80k, second month 20k, next 38, next 55 and so on. But the sum for year will be 480k.
Darren ***********
So it's not possible to use the monthly method if you only come on the 90 day Non-O visa?
Tod *********
@Darren **********
nope, unless you come from a country whose consulate still issues the affidavit of income from abroad notary letter NO, I have never seen someone enter on a 90 day non-O visa and get a year extension based on monthly transfers with just 3 or 4 months of incoming transfers. Technically it is allowed BUT I have never ever seen it happen. That first year, you use banked money THEN you can switch to monthly income by transfers the following year.

@Tod ********
as a dual UK and Aussie citizen, looks like I'm screwed then 😞
Tod *********
@Aleksey ******
as ellie said, and as I specifically wrote it out, a minimum of 40K baht a month, each month, every month for the previous 12 months before you apply for your extension. There is no 80K one month skip a month, sort of thing allowed
Ellie *******
@Aleksey ******
monthly income has to be MINIMUM 40K every month. It's not "average".

And there is no combination method for funds requirement for an extension based on marriage to a Thai.
