Hi, my Thai girlfriend and I are planning to get married in January and for me to live in Thailand for a year or two. Is it worth getting agent to handle the marriage visa, or is it more or less guaranteed if you have the 400k baht and >40k baht income? I’m 33.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation centers around the process of obtaining a marriage visa in Thailand after marrying a Thai national. The user is inquiring whether hiring an agent is necessary, given they meet the financial conditions of having 400,000 baht in savings and an income above 40,000 baht. Comments suggest that while using an agent can help, it's manageable without one, and that the process mainly involves paperwork after marriage. Concerns regarding potential visa denial and the relationship between the NON-O visa and work permits are also raised.

I am an online travel agent so If I come to stay longer in the kingdom I wouldn't be needing any work permit?

Alright. Thank you

By Thai law: If you use your knowledge or physical energy whether or not for wages or other benefits you need a work permit.

I'm talking about online.

I don't think any kind of work (including volunteer) whatsoever is allowed without a permit.

Thanks! Are there any common (or not so common) reasons why it might be denied? I’d be a serious set back if the 1 year extension was denied. Oh, and does the O visa include work permit? I’ve seen mixed info on that

Mm, the last thing I want to do is break the law in Thailand, way too scary.

as long as it work its ok but early of late they get caught, plenty people come in thailand and just refuse the law. Law here is for everyone so just respect it and all will run fine.

If you do your work online from the comfort of your home and DON'T advertise the fact you'll be alright. Too many snitches around especially on FB.

sorry but working on australian website "remotely or not" is working and thus need a work permit.

Mr Tod is an outlaw, he can face jail sentence & fine.

Some GroupS "admin" are in the same case and they can have problem.

@Ma**
, nope, you couldn't get one at all for that reason :/

You are NOT "working" here so wouldn't need one.

Ahhh... good to know. And the work permit if I was working on Australian websites remotely, how would that fly do ya reckon?

no visa comes with a work permit. :/ BUT you can indeed get a work permit if you find a job while on an extension of stay based on marriage to a thai. (y)

Once they accept your paperwork for the year extension it goes under consideration for 30 days before you go back and get the extension inked into your passport. During that 30 days the immigration office usually sends out some people to interview you, your neighbors, etc (except in bangkok they don't do it).

I have never personally seen an extension denied once you turned in your paperwork and got the 30 day under consideration stamp.

Once you register the marriage it's just paperwork to get first the 90 day Non-O visa and then the yearly extension based on marriage.

Some people use an agent but it is totally doable by the average person.
