For the visa gurus who run this fantastic page. I have asked similar questions and will probably ask again as I’m thinking about a year ahead here.

I wish to marry and live in Thailand in about a years time.

Trying to find the best visa information for me.

I don’t have a lot of money but will have enough for the required bank account deposit but I’m not sure my monthly income will meet the test as I will be in pension.

I have just read on consul website.

Deposit Acc and proof of a min 800,000 month AUD$34,000 year which is confusing me 800,000 baht month is around AUD$32k/$34k is it a year or per month.

I want the cheapest possible way to stay and wish to know do you have to have the bank Acc dep every time you apply for renewal of visa ?

As I said I will have the bank dep no problem but my income will be around 32,000 baht per month.

What is my best option Visa wise ?

I dint mind if I have to leave the country once it twice a year to a neighbouring country for renewal of visa but I’m concerned about the income stuff ?

I want a marriage visa or retirement visa but it’s all so complicated I’m unsure.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on the best visa to marry and reside in Thailand within a year, while having limited income from a pension. They are confused about the financial requirements, specifically the need for 800,000 Baht either monthly or annually, and if they need to maintain this amount for visa renewals. Comments clarify that for a marriage-based Non-O visa, one needs 400,000 Baht in a Thai bank account or a proof of income request from an embassy. The possibility of using a multi-entry Non-O visa from a consulate in Savannakhet, Laos, which doesn't require proof of funds, is also discussed.
NON-O RETIREMENT VISA RESOURCES / SERVICES
  • Go to the Retirement Visa Section for information on requirements, including age restrictions, financial requirements, and necessary documentation.

They are the only 2 consulates you can get a non-o based on marriage without showing funds.
Tony *********
Ho Chi Minh will give a year-long, multi-entry Non-O based on marriage from them.

original marriage certificate

copies of:

front&back of the marriage certificate

front&back of your thai wife's I/D card

thai wife's house book listing

data page of your passport

You also need a letter from your wife asking that the consulate issue the visa.

Remember the thai consulates in Vietnam ONLY take US dollars and the year-long, multi-entry Non-O is $200 USD

You are allowed to work with a work permit and the Non Immigrant O visa based on marriage with a Thai National. You can do the Extension of Stay based on marriage.

There are a couple ways to go about it. First there is no visa called a marriage visa. There is a Non-Immigrant Type-O <-other which is issued for a variety of reasons, marriage being one..

To get a "yearly extension of stay based on marriage to a thai national, you'd need 400K baht in a thai bank account in your name for 60 days before you apply at the immigration office for the extension, OR you'd need a letter from your embassy stating you had income of 40K baht per month. There is also documentation like the thai marriage certificates, copy of your freedom to marry affidavit, pictures of you & your wife standing in front of the address numbers where you live, a couple pictures of the wedding, and couple of you two sitting around the house.

A lot of people who don't meet or don't want to meet the financial criteria for an in country extension of stay go to the Thai Embassy in Savannakhet Lao and get a year-long, multi-entry Non-Immigrant Type-O visa.. They don't require proof of financials there and that visa is good for 90 days at a time in country, then you exit/re-enter and get another 90 days. You do this for the entire year..

To get a year-long, multi-entry Non-Immigrant Type O visa based on marriage to a thai from the consulate in Savannakhet you need

the original marriage certificate (if married in thailand it's the one with the rose border)

copies of:

front&back of the marriage certificate

front&back of your thai wife's i/d card

thai wife's house book listing

data page of your passport

lao visa and entry stamp

(you sign everything with your name on it and your wife signs everything with her name on it meaning you BOTH sign the marriage certificate copies)

you need 2 passport sized photos and the filled out application along with 5000baht. You turn in your application one morning before 11:30 and you pick up your passport the next afternoon after 1:30

Which means you must leave the country from time to time I assume
Garry *******
I assume your Australian, it is very easy to apply for a retirement visa in Australia with the 34k in your Aussie bank account, then you can get two years out of that visa by leaving the country once on the anniversary and for that period no need to show any income or funds in Thailand.
Claus *******
Ed Alchin , 800.000 thb is around AUS 40.000 $ , so be careful that Australian Dollar is not very strong at the moment.
Claus *******
@Glen ********

Ed Alchin it was never near $40,000 AUD as Claus claimed...it was closer to $33,000 some weeks ago

You could do. It doesnt even need to be in there permanantly. It just needs to be seasoned, 2 months for the 1st years extention of stay and 3 months for subsequent yearly extentions

@Glen ********
How is he wrong? The OP stated 800,000, that is based on being over 50(commonly known as retirement). He only needs 400,000 based on marriage.
Brett *****
Is police check from your country or Thai police check

From these answers looks like I’ll be ok
Glen *********
Wrong !

You can also apply using monthly income of 65,000 Baht with no money in the account!
Glen *********
If you apply for retirement visa here in Thailand, no need to show any money!

You simply sign a stat dec at the Aussie Embassy in Bangkok, saying you get an income of 65,000 or more per month. Currently this is sufficient for immigration in Bangkok.

There is always a risk that immigration will ask you for financial records to back up the stat dec, but rarely asked as I understand.

You need to earn a minimum of 65,000 Baht per month or have 800,000 Baht in the account to correctly apply!

Marriage is different and someone else will give you those requirements 🙂
Barry ******
You just need to have the money.

Your income is not enough to get a marriage or retirement.

Your only options is tourist visas from nearby countries. Or if you have
*****
ringit or the equivalent in a bank you can go for a METV in KL
