How much are you paying for the DTV Visa? I often see 350,- USD here but I applied in new zealand and they charged me 2000,- NZD (roughly 1250,- USD) through the thai embassy?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The cost of the DTV Visa varies significantly by country due to different embassy pricing structures. For instance, applicants from New Zealand reported fees as high as 2000 NZD (approximately 1250 USD), while typical costs in other countries range around 350 USD to 650 CAD. It's noted that fees charged in New Zealand are among the highest globally, with many suggesting that applying directly in Thailand or at more affordable consulates is preferable to avoid exorbitant fees in Wellington. Various commenters shared their experiences and fees from other locations, illustrating the discrepancies in visa costs.

New Zealander here and we decided as a family to apply elsewhere due to the cost. We have friends who got stung $1,000 per person (including kids as young as two) for tourist visas in NZ.

We figure the cash we save in fees we can have a nice mini holiday somewhere while we wait for processing.

@Sarah ********
same, kiwi here and I don’t get how other countries offer the visa for 10k - 15k baht, while NZ is charging 45k… just a blatant rip off. Nothing new in NZ tho, a bloody basket of groceries will cost you $300 these days, $100 a few years ago
Tod *********
@Sarah ********
wise choice, and especially now that most people get in FREE for 60 days there is no need to have kiwis buy tourist visas to come here for 2 months

yup. Based on hubby’s research not mine.

They paying for a New Embassy or something or need extra "Tea Monies"

The price should be the equivalent of 10,000 baht in whatever currency. If the cost is considerably more you may well have been duped into a scam site.
Luit *****************
@Martin *******
In most countries it is considerable more, allthough if Thai baht is continuing to get more and more expensive like last months, it will reach a realistic amount in the near future.

Nope last night I paid 16,500 Baht to embassy in Ottawa n they do not like my letter from dentist n want a dental plan n he has no idea what the patient look like. I have a bank statement n they want something else.

Okay people let's get our sh*t sorted

The consulates are free (within limits to set the price for the DTV) MANY consulates don't take thai baht for visa fees so they set the price in THEIR currency

This is the breakdown for consulates around here

𝗩𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗮𝗸𝗵𝗲𝘁 𝗟𝗮𝗼 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝟭𝟬𝗞 𝗕𝗮𝗵𝘁

Hands down Wellington is most expensive thai consulate IN THE WORLD bar none 😮 They raised their prices just before they switched over to the eVisa online system

I have been telling people in New Zealand since they raised their prices NOT to buy ANY visa from the thai consulate in Wellington and just come here free stamp, then go get the visa at a nearby thai consulate where the prices are more in line with what they should be

@Tod ********
so I take it you don’t need to apply from your home country? You just cannot in Thailand during the application, is that correct?

Also, is there a time limit that you need to enter Thailand before to use the DTV? Can I apply for it 4 months before my entry date?
Tod *********
@Christian ********
most consulates don't want you to get the DTV earlier than 3 months before your travel

from a very good friend

Hi Greg,

Earlier this year, the Thai embassy in New Zealand adjusted visa fees and irrespctive of the visa you apply for, it's between 4 and 8 times more in New Zealand than anywhere else. I wrote to the ambassador and the visa section about it and they did not reply. I wrote to the Prime Minister of New Zealand and the New Zealand embassy in Bangkok and both said they would follow up with the Thais - that was months ago and no change. The foreign Minister of NZ contatced me after the Prime Minister referred my email to him....and he said he was concerned about it and would look in to it, but nothing. My best guess is that they somehow messed up the exchange rate from THB to NZD and that is the cause. Certainly, there does not seem to be any other reason for it!
Tod *********
@Greg ******
i emailed the consulate in Wellington when they announced the changes would take effect and they said they were "in line" with what other consulates were charging. I messaged them back asking them to show me one consulate charging what they were going to charge, and they never answered

@Tod ********
the two in Laos are.listed in baht rather than the local currency. Is this an exception to your comment regarding being in "THEIR currency " ?
Paul *******
@Jared ********
Yes, for some reason, the Vietnamese consulates only take USD, even though Vietnam is now an entirely VND economy with a stable, though low value currency. The Australian consulates charge in Dong, not AUD or USD in Vietnam. It's interesting that the Thais are only taking USD there, but fortunately, it's easy to obtain. Just go to a moneychanger in town and exchange Dong for USD to pay for your visa.
Tod *********
@Jared ********
😛 they ONLY take thai baht for visas in Lao because Lao Kip is as worthless as toilet paper 😉

And if you read it I said 𝗠𝗔𝗡𝗬 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗱𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗶 𝗯𝗮𝗵𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗮 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝘀 <- meaning some DO and I listed them first 😛
