Thai Visa advice in Paris have spoken to a Thai official, who has confirmed to them, that the fee for a DTV renewal after 180 days is 1900 baht. Just FYI.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The current fee for renewing a DTV (Digital Nomad Visa) in Thailand, as confirmed by a Thai official in Paris, is 1900 baht after 180 days. However, discussions in the community highlight uncertainties regarding the required paperwork for the extension due to differing operations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) and the Immigration Offices in Thailand. Some commenters express skepticism about relying solely on information from the MFA, suggesting that further official clarification is needed once in-country requirements are properly confirmed.

Benjamin Hart from Integrity Legal is now claiming in-country extensions won't be possible, or that he doesn't believe they're happening. I don't believe anything he says anymore regarding this visa, as much of his claims are guesswork, speculative and based on fear mongering.

Do we have to check in every 90 days ?

Theoretically, yes. I think if you only do border runs (as in, you don't extend in country) the lack of a TM47 will barely be noticeable unless of course you end up needing to use the services of immigration at some point.

Being the visa it is, you could do TM47s in different offices as you travel around the country; you're not tied to one office as you are with an extension of stay.

Thanks for the info Bud .

Hey. No one knows the answer. When the time comes there will. Move on.

Or you could just do a visa run

You simply cannot rely on what someone in the MFA says, about something the Dept of Interior will do.

The silence from them is very noticable now.

I’ve seen an interview with the main Immigration people on YouTube where they go through this whole DTV thing and as far as I’m aware it is 1900 as per usual.

That video was with the MFA (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and not The Royal Thai Immigration Police if you are referring to the one with the Canadian guy above.

@Scott ******
that person they interviewed was from the MFA who does NOT have anything to do with extensions INSIDE thailand

Just curious
@Dave *********
how would anyone at a Thai embassy or consulate in another country have the slightest idea of what an extension on a visa that's been out just 81 days will cost?

Embassies / Consulates OUTSIDE the country are run by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Immigration Offices INSIDE the country are run by the Immigration Division of the Royal Thai Police.

Those are two totally different gov't entities and have nothing to do with one another.. And it's immigration offices INSIDE the country that sell extensions not the MFA 😛

Please note I'm not saying it isn't gonna be 1900baht, and I'm not saying it isn't gonna be 10K baht

I'm saying how about we WAIT until someone actually gets the hand out listing the requirements for the DTV extension from an immigration office INSIDE the country so that we know what's what.

so true, so frustrating until you learn to smile and accept it and ignore it.

I'm only saying the advice they gave me.

@Dave *********
and I am not disputing that's what they told you

BUT

remember if you ask a thai something and they don't know the real answer they can't say they don't know because they'd lose face (and thaiz will do anything they can to not have that happen)

So if a thai doesn't know an answer they'll just make one up, whether it's right or not doesn't even factor in to the equation.

reminds me of the Mexicans who want SO MUCH to be helpful and friendly that they'd enthusiastically give you any firm answer even if they have no clue what you're talking about 😂

@Tod ********
100% this.

Until they actually start processing them, we just wont know. Even then, its subject to change.

No surprise as every and any extension costs 1900 baht. The unknown factor is whether they will require updated/current paperwork similar to the application via a consulate to process the extension.

@Wannikea ********
what kind of updated paperwork you thinking
John *******
@Paulie *******
- similar type of paperwork you needed to get the visa.
Paul *******
@John ******
That would be silly and counterproductive, considering you can just do border runs every 180 days without any paperwork (other than maybe...at borders such as Ranong, 20K in cash being asked for).
John *******
@Paul ******
- True. Didn’t say I believe it, just saying some people on here are speculating that based on the MFA interview (yes, I know immigration is a different entity). Also, wouldn’t impact me, as my documents are the same in 1 year, 2 years etc as they are now.

@John ******
Ditto for me, but I won't have 500K lying around in my account this whole time. I'll take it out once the visa has been approved. Sure, I can transfer it back should I need to show it again but I hope they won't play silly games like having to show it for 2 months before application.

I will almost certainly just do border runs as I travel for pleasure and a couple of times a year for work anyway (though 90% of what I do is remote).

@John ******
so if you do it as soft power as medical and your treatment is funshed then you won't get a extension but if you leave the country and come back in with zero paperwork as it's a 5 year 180 day METV 🤔

Everything is speculation. However, that is the thought some people have. We really just need to wait and see
