TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion highlights the excessive fee for the Digital Work Visa (DTV) for New Zealand nationals, which is noted to be 42,550 THB, significantly higher than expected compared to the official price of 10,000 THB. Comments reflect frustration about the high costs of visas in New Zealand, comparisons with Australian visa fees, and suggestions about alternative application strategies. Some participants also discuss the cost of living in New Zealand, the right of abode in Australia, and the possibility of utilizing services from the Australian embassy.
For comparison. I can get an Australian Partnership application paid for plus medicals, criminal checks and biometrics and everything.
And it works out still cheaper.

That is outrageous! Something has to be done about that greedy RTE in NZ.
In the meantime just come on a visa exemption and get the DTV in a neighboring country.

My daughter lives in New Zealand. (From California) she tells me 2 tomatoes cost $8.

At least NZ still offers to provide affidavit letters to their citizens for Non O visa and extension of stay in Thailand despite their expensive visa fees.

Consulates are self-sufficient and can ask what they want for their services.
You can shop around if you're eligible for a certain service at any other consulate.

NZers have right of abode in Australia. Just move to Sydney and apply there 😆

Might be worth applying via the Aussie embassy as kiwi passport is reciprocal.
No idea if that’s possible but maybe worth checking?
If you can then just book a flight via syd to collect visa (if it’s a physical stamp or whatever)?
Rubbish salaries and high cost of living… that’s why everyone smart will move to Australia. Australia thinks it has it hard, wait until you go New Zealand hahahaha
I am a New Zealand national, originally from Auckland, our largest city. The embassy is located in Wellington, one of our major administrative centers. I had to drive there to submit my non-immigrant visa application coupe years back. In my experience, Wellington is more expensive.
But yeah, my countries too expensive that’s why I left. Why bother training, getting skilled, working hard to only get a marginally better salary. After Covid I thought meh I’ll take a break thank you… two years later I think after Thailand I won’t return, will go Australia permanently
understand perfectly.."I don’t want to get locked into New Zealand, you’re not going to grow there." exactly why I left my small hometown in England to move to Tokyo.

That's over 4x the advertised official price (10k baht) disgusting
