So those who need to re-enter the country at times to reset the exemption counter (or on multiple entry visas), and combine that with sightseeing in the region. Where would you go?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around travel options for expats looking to reset their visa exemption counter while sightseeing. Various recommendations include cities in neighboring countries such as Phnom Penh, Ho Chi Minh City, Luang Prabang, and places in Malaysia like Penang and Langkawi, depending on the starting location within Thailand. The conversation also touches on visa types, advising on the advantages of a 60-day tourist visa over visa exemptions and on how to manage visa-related processes remotely.

First start with 60 days touristvisa + 30 days extention, the no need to leave Thailand in 90 days.

Then go to other countrys.

When going to Thailand for 31 - 60 ( 90 )days, the 60 days touristvisa is the best option.

It is cheaper than visa excempt + 30 days extension.

No need of a onward ticket ( 90 days 1 onward ), if returnticket within 60 days.

It is easier to apply from the comfort of your home.

Not wasting holiday time to find, go to and waiting at a immigration office ( 90 you would need that ).

depends from where in Thailand you start out. Speaking only of land borders (!!)- From Northern Thailand I would visit Luang Prabang and Vang Vieng in Laos. From the southern part of the Isaan I would visit Paxxe and the Fourthousand Islands. From the Northern Isaan part you will soon be able to cross the new Thai/Lao Friendship Bridge 5 at Bueng Khan. From Southern Thailand I would do a trip to either Georgetown, Penang or Langkawi. From the Eastern part I would visit Siem Reap and Angkor Wat, or maybe check out Shihanoukville

thank you ๐Ÿ™

Area doesn't matter much to me, my search isn't restricted to just near borders. I hoped to get lists of places like you now provided, partly for others in the situation, partly for myself in case I need it again. So this is very helpful.

These 4000 islands in southern Laos, have you been there? What makes it fun?
