Which country close to Thailand is issuing the Thai tourist visas? Mine is expired and I'd like to take a trip for a couple weeks and get a new one. I looked at Ho Chi Minh. Vietnam but they said they're not issuing them to foreigners. Not sure why, I used to get one there often.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the availability of Thai tourist visas from neighboring countries. It highlights that Cambodia, Malaysia, and Laos may issue these visas, contrasting with the difficulty in obtaining them in Vietnam recently. Several users share their experiences with applying for visas, including eVisas and documents needed during immigration, especially during the ongoing COVID-19 situation.

Up to July 25th you could apply for a Covid extension, which may negate the need to fly anywhere.

Have you done the evisa before. What do they look at when you come through Immigration? Is there a pdf or something you have to print up? If I did that, I'd get the 6 month multiple entry tourist visa. What the hell do I show them each time I come back? Or is it just digitally associated with your passport number and they see that when scanning it?

As far as the eVisa it's emailed to you. I recommend printing it out, with a copy or 2.

I did an eVisa from USA almost 2 months ago. Immigration asked for the boarding pass from my last flight which was from Tokyo. They were more interested in checking the COVID requirements at that time

Thanks. I'm going to look into it more. Just need to confirm what that PDF I need to present holds on it. If I do need to present it. I don't want to show up from Cambodia with a pdf saying I'm coming from U.S.

I haven't done the e-visa but theoretically it will be digitally connected to your passport but printing out the pdf would be sensible and the double check they have stamped you in correctly on entry at immigration (which one should do regardless of the visa they have as mistakes sometime get made with the date stamp)

I assumed they looked at a paid ticket to Thailand from your home country. I've never done the e-visa. That would be awesome if that worked though.

as the visa is valid for several months for entry many don't actually have proper flights booked and won't unless they know they have the visa. You just need a confirmed flight itinerary and those can be purchased online for about $15

I only suggested the VPN as I thought the e-visa site may be blocked from countries who can't use it

yes they want to see a plane ticket from the country you're applying from. Also a VPN wouldn't do anything, they don't track you by IP address for a Visa application.

you DON'T NEED a VPN. The evisa system does not track IP address. A VPN wouldn't do anything. Completely useless. They want to see a plane ticket from US to Thailand for you to apply from US.

in that case can't you leave Thailand and then apply for an e-visa? I know you're meant to apply in home country but if you use a VPN I can't see why there should be an issue?

It took one business day before, drop all your paperwork off in the morning, pick up the next afternoon.

Yeah. That's how it used to work. But this covid situation has a lot of embassies appointment only as well. So you need to check ahead what each embassy/consulate is doing.

I don't want to fly back and hope they give me the 30 day stamp if that's what you're asking. I want the actual tourist visa for 60 days that can be extended another 30.

Visa on arrival gives only 15 days and only to certain nationalities.

Or maybe you mean visa exemption ? Thailand has been back to exemption almost 2 and ½ years ago, but exemption only gives 30 days extendable by 30, whereas TV gives 60 extendable by 30 days.

visa on arrival and tourist visa - both are same ? In terms of duration of stay? Or might be some other differences too??

NOT the same. Also there is a lot of misunderstanding between visa on arrival and visa exemption (which is mostly 30 days, but for some passport countries can be 15 or 90 days)

It depends on your passport which ones you are able to get. You have to start from there (possibilities depending on your which passport you have : go to website of your local Thai embassy)

Wait, what? I just got a visa approved 2 days ago to Da Nang, Vietnam. Flight's booked for Saturday. Staying there 10 days.

Unless you mean, which countries are issuing Thai tourist visas...

really? Very interesting. So your passport may affect your ability to obtain a Thai visa in a third party nation?

yes it very much does in a third party second party and almost in their own country too! For example- India, srikanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan ( sorry I might be wrong) but as what I read have got rejected or tough time to get it from third country ! Won’t you agree?

no idea really. But it’s distinctly possible. One would hope that if a person could obtain a Thai visa in their home nation, that policy would be supported by their consulates around the world.

true! Should be very much as you said., but the application goes to Thai consulate in third nation while applying there so the home nation funda doesn’t apply! As myself Indian national! I have heard people having hard time applying schenzen tourist visa in Thailand as Indian nationals- require permanent residency status or at least a work permit etc! So yes nationality wise discrepancies are there, may be I not have authentic source but yes some from our fb platform I read posts more often! But I guess the person who’s post is- might not have problem !

Also to add up- the criteria they restrict and sometimes even case to case basis in here and other third countries is viable and practical- as lot of problems of illegal work and migration reports of some nationalities which I won’t speak but we all know! So in a way they are doing is right .
