Should I be concerned about my middle name discrepancy when applying for the DTV in Thailand?

Hi guys, posting anon because the group is open and my friends are nosey.

I am planning on applying for the DTV. I saw someone sayin they think they got rejected because they have their middle name on their passport but not on their bank statement. Anyone with any info? In the US it's normal to not use your middle name on documents really. My middle name in my passport but not my bank accounts, credit card, literally nothing else. Should I not even bother as I would waste $400? Thank you so much.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The query addresses concerns about whether having a middle name on a passport but not on a bank statement could lead to a rejection of a DTV visa application in Thailand. Most responses indicate that the absence of a middle name on a bank account is not commonly problematic, and issues with applications are often unexplained. Several users advise checking application details meticulously and suggest contacting the embassy for clarification before applying to avoid potential losses.

I did not have problems related to this.

But it is wise to check it out.

A dear friend of mine got the visa (and 350$) cancelled cuz of that name thing. He's asian so he got 2 names, well, he put is first name in given name and his second name as middle name like ALL the English official government websites claim. Long story short, the embassy said that he has 2 given names and no middle name so his money was lost. When he pointed out that ALL the English websites claim to fill in the way he did, they just replied saying that the visa isn't refundable and he accepted that right before applying for it. Do you want good advice? Take a picture of your passport and mail the embassy asking them how to fill in their form, that's gonna probably save u over 300$ and a bad time.

so sorry that truly sucks because it’s their name. Good idea to email and ask and hopefully they will respond. Appreciate the info and advice.

Anonymous participant the things that made me mad was that all of the official websites (in English) from the government pointed out how to fill in the form. They replied showing a screenshot where my friend ticked the part claiming "The visa isn't refundable for any reasons/ under any circumstance". They were "sort of nice" saying that he could reapply again but that stupid mistake came at 300$, I felt like when you get scammed in thailand and the seller keeps smiling at you knowing u got no rights and happy for having your money in his pocket

Common sense and fair play isn’t something that Government Departments are known for. That applies universally unfortunately. I would have done a chargeback on my credit card and found another option (or gone to another Country instead).

the arrogance they replied at first made my blood boil. Once my friend got a mail saying the visa was cancelled due to mistake in the form, he mailed asked them what the mistake was and got replied he filled up the middle name instead of writing 2 given names). He mail them back showing what the OFFICIAL website claims (there's a session called MISTAKES TO AVOID while filling up a form, especially for those who don't have just a single name). He followed EXACTLY what their website claimed and he sent them a screenshot of it. They just replied that doesn't apply to his case and that screenshot claiming he accepted to lose his money. Even they do a mistake, you still have to pay for it.

Totally unacceptable! Your friend’s bank/credit card company would almost certainly agree that he had paid for a service that he didn’t receive. He was not in error. He is entitled to reclaim the $300 fee.

that is what he wanted to do at first but then you can say good bye to thailand cuz it's really like they red flag your name + they pointed out several times that before applying for the visa you have to tick a note saying that you know that the visa is not refundable under any circumstance or for any case. No matter what, once you pay you won't get your money back. I think this is also one of the reasons all the visas went online, less work and MUCH MORE revenue due to stupid mistakes.

I've never heard of this, but I've also heard and seen some weird things with embassies doing nonsensical things.

What embassy are you applying out of?

That’s not a thing. My bank doesn’t have my middle name. As a former mortgage broker, I’ve seen 1000’s of statements, and it’s very rare.

This is not the reason they were declined.
David ********
No problem. I also believe the reason you get rejected is not disclosed

@David *******
yeah I don’t

Know anyone with middle name of everyday documents but I was so worried. Thank you.

It was probably some obscure embassy with little to no experience with the DTV, highly unlikely a western world embassy would be so strict.

Up to you but rejections usually don't explain why so it may have been a (bad) guess. Fill the application in as required but do check each page carefully as the system has been known to change the passport information entered especially middle names and birthdates. Most people don't use their middle names for everyday things so your bank accts shouldn't be an issue
