Why is the Thai embassy requesting additional documents for my DTV application in South Korea?

Hey team,

I am in South Korea and applied for the DTV three weeks ago online. Have received a LENGTHY request for more documents.

One being: Financial evidence: amount of no less than 500,000 THB, e.g. bank statements, sponsorship letter : English “Bank Statement in your name” : Latest 3 months (Maintaining balance more than 20,000,000 won each month for up to 3 months) issued within 1 week before application from the bank (Not Securities Balance but Bankbook for free deposit & withdrawal

I originally submitted 3 bank statements (I have 3 accounts) for the last 6 months and they clearly showed the balance. Any ideas why they’re asking for it again?

Also is this asking about a front and back pic of my passport? Or my Australian driver’s license?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user in South Korea faces complications in their DTV visa application due to a request for additional financial documentation, specifically requiring updated bank statements showing a balance of at least 500,000 THB. Despite having submitted relevant statements showing their balance previously, the embassy appears to want more recent documents. The discussion includes insights into the Thai bureaucratic process, the requirements of different embassies regarding residency for applications, and recommendations for resubmitting clearer documentation.

Hi Amy, I am also from Australia and wanting to apply for the DTV, are you going via the soft power route?

@Jake *****
I applied via the soft power route at Sydney consulate. Gave 4 months of bank statements and documents from the school. Approved in 2 weeks, no additional documents needed.

Amazing! thanks

Always best to apply from the country where you have a permanent adress to show consistency, and not follow the flow to Thailands neighboring countries, where all those who have been milking the Thai immigration system are going.

Hi Jake, I went for the work action route as I work remotely. If you’re still based in aus, perhaps easier to apply from there before leaving! But not sure how the soft power route goes tbh

Don’t you need to apply in the country where your business is registered??

it totally depends on each embassy. Seoul and Tokyo were notorious for only allowing citizens and residents to apply, whereas in South East Asia and Taiwan anybody, including tourists, are more than welcomed to apply.

oh that’s really good to know, i didn’t know! so if my business is registered in europe i can apply in taiwan, for example?
Henrik *****
Best to apply in the country, where most of your documentation is coming from, then the Embassy will know the documents, like they are formated in that country.

tourists are not allowed to apply in Seoul ...

I have seen others in this group who were approved in Korea as a tourist 🤔

Have you read the Embassy website before applying.

unless rules changed recently, those other unverified claims about getting it MIGHT not be true. I mean, I don't know why would they lie, but I can 100% assure you that tourists were not allowed to apply at least when I applied, in August (they could have change the rules after that, of course). However, the best and only way is you asking directly to the embassy whether tourists can apply or not. I'm actually following this closely as I know other people that are currently staying in Korea as tourists and they also want to apply.

Alien registration card is the documentation that allows you to live in Korea. I believe if you look at the Thai embassy website for Korea only Koreans and those with legal residency can apply there.

3 different statements are too complicated and they don't want to dig into it and compare, and search balances in each.

Depending on how complicated or voluminous your submitted bank statements were... Use a highlighter on the important amounts, dates, monthly balance etc and your name on the account.

Alien residence card is what you get if you live/work in Korea. Does the website say you must be resident to apply there?

I couldn’t see that direction on the website :( I saw a few people on this group applied as tourists from Korea so not sure why they’re asking me for this

@Amy *****
I think you had better scour the embassy website visa section and FAQ to be sure you can indeed apply as a tourist/non resident.

This is thai bureaucracy for you. They make things complicated for literally no reason and they LOVE paperwork without purpose

Just send the same exact bank statements you did before but with today's date and the other documents they asked for.

You know the Thais so well. You're absolutely right.😂
