Hey hey! I want to apply for he dtv visa from the states. I share a bank account with my elderly mother and autistic sister, will that likely be an issue? For what it's worth.... the amount in the account is many times the required 500k baht. Thank you much 🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about the possibility of using a joint bank account with family members for their DTV visa application, given that the account balance exceeds the required amount. Community responses suggest that while it may be possible, having the applicant's name on the account statement is crucial. Additionally, opening a separate account in the applicant's name is recommended due to potential complications with joint accounts, especially if the embassy or immigration office has specific requirements regarding fund ownership.

If the embassy you will use works anything like immigration inside Thailand then you need 3 times the money if there are 3 people named on the account, but only the embassy is going to be able to answer your question

Anonymous participant you apply using the embassy that matches your location. You have to state where that is when you apply

silly question but how do I know which embassy to apply through? I planned on applying online.

I would deposit the ฿500k in a bank account in just your name, check with the embassy/consulate you will be applying at, it seems some require seasoning of the funds, they might not accept an account that others have access too, that money is supposed to be your safety net.

Yes they want to see past transactions.

I have not seen any that require seasoning of funds as this is a very new visa. However, account statements that show past transactions of 6 months or more are required by some.

so the embassy or consulates, that require 2 or 3 or 6 months of bank statements, it just needs to show past transactions of any amount?? I thought when they were requesting bank statements, for previous months it needed to show a balance of 500k, I'm confused now, everyone keeps giving different information 😅🙆

Is your name listed on the account statement? If so you can try. No guaratees though that they won’t question it. You might want to get yourself a separate account either way as people report that obtaining a bank account even for DTV holders has gotten difficult now.

thank you for your reply, I thought about making a single account but then I would not have 6 months of history. Also how do I know what embassy I will be applying to? I'm in the Chicago area but planned on applying online.

You don’t need 6 months account history in the U.S. that is only a requirement at some overseas embassies, mostly in Southeast Asia, to apply more scrutiny. A single month bank statement is sufficient for applying at U.S. based consulates.

I understood it, the funds can be in a bank account in any country 🤔

They can be, but best in Thai Baht if possible.

that also depends on the embassy. Some don’t accept that. But if he plans pn moving to Thailand not sure how practical it is to use one single back account back home together with two (dependent) family members.
