Hey guys, my return flight to Ireland is Monday 3rd of Feb, I’ve changed my mind last minute and want to stay another 30 days, I’ll have a 3 day overstay by the time Monday comes, I’ve no idea how it works..will the immigration office in Bangkok let me extend my time? Afraid I’ll be declined and end up missing out on my flight back

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is facing a 3-day overstay on their visa as they wish to extend their stay in Thailand by 30 days. Responses indicate that they can apply for an extension at the immigration office in Bangkok despite the overstay but will need to pay a fine for the days overdue. They can expect their extension to be backdated to the end of their initial visa validity. Alternatively, users suggest performing a border run to reset their stay period. It's noted that interactions with law enforcement during an overstay can lead to consequences, so caution is advised.

I was told by my legal team that if I went to the airport and told them I would have a 2 day overstay they would fine me without consequence. As it happens I had to go to Malaysia so got the 60 day extension. I was in process of getting retirement visa and I took my docs with me but were not required at BKK

Did your "legal team" also tell you of the consequences of any interaction with the police while on overstay e.g. at a checkpoint? Maybe they hope to represent you if this were to happen.

true, no issues at all. They didn't stamp me for overstay but they did staple the receipt to passport. Immigration officer said it was never an issue and jokes about it.

I wouldn’t rely on all immigration officers being so benevolent, they’re a fickle bunch to put it mildly!!

that is true. But in Thailand we know they can do basically what they want. And there isn't any ban until 90 days overstay unless you get arrested on overstay . To many people worry the little things. My immigration made a joke and said they love making the extra money. He was so cool after I explained. He personally told me not to worry about after he stapled the receipt in passport

so you were going to leave Monday knowing that was a 3 day overstay, am I right? Now on Saturday you decided you want to stay longer. Go to Immigration Monday. Pay 3x 500 baht for the overstay and 1x 1,900 baht for the 30 day extension. Take it in cash

Thailand always stamps overstay and amount of fine in your passport. Fine is 500 baht per day. Both of Which you would know if you had overstayed.!

your an idiot . The fine is subject to 500 a day but they have the say what the is fine. A real expat would know that. And their isn't a fucking overstay in my passport. You idiots think you know everything. I know from experience. You think what you read is final. You probably think Thailand isn't the sex capital because prostitution is illegal and Nana plaza must be fake. Take your ass back to canada you idiot

not possible, Vietnam has electronic application. Takes to much time. Border run. But in reality they are not going to do anything for 3 days. No stamp just a fine of they wish to. I had over stay for week and immigration officer laughed and said they love making extra money. Paid a small fine no stamp. He said over stay is no serious under 30 days.

did you do a 30 day extension already? If not, then do that in Krabi instead of a border bounce. I've never seen any long ques at the The immigration office in Krabi, it's 1900 thb and quickly done. If you have an extension already, flying from Krabi to Kuala Lumpur and return is the most convenient.

You can do a border run at any time. Your current entry stamp expires as soon as you leave and you get a new one on re-entry (providing it's your first border run)

Assuming you entered Thailand as a tourist and received a 60 day entry stamp, and you still have not used your 30 day extension, then yes you can still apply for the extension on Monday. You will need to have 1500 baht for potential overstay fine (500 baht per day), and you will still receive an overstay stamp in your passport. But they will still process your application and backdate your extension to when your original stamp ended, so you would not receive a full 30 days from your application date, but would still receive a full 30 days from when your previous entry ended.

Please be aware if you have any interaction with the police, like a random checkpoint, or any such thing, there is a potential for you to be arrested, sent to immigration holding, deported and banned from Thailand. This is a risk for anyone who goes on overstay so it's not something to be taken lightly. So don't take any unnecessary risks over the weekend.
