Question: I am german, got a visa for 30 days in Thailand, extended it to 30 more days in Koh Samui. It expires tomorrow. I have a flight back to germany on the 20th. What would you recommend me to do? Pay the overstay at the airport or go on a visa run to malaysia? If overstay: Is there a problem to come back to thailand someday? Thank you in advance 🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user, a German expat, is facing a dilemma as their 30-day visa in Thailand is about to expire. They have the option to either pay a 4,000 baht overstay fine at the airport or perform a visa run to Malaysia. The discussion highlights the consequences of overstaying, such as the risk of being detained if caught, and whether an overstay stamp would be placed in their passport. Suggestions include: 1) paying the overstay fine if they risk going to the airport, 2) making a border bounce to obtain a new visa, or 3) getting a 7-day extension for 1,900 baht at an immigration office. Community responses reflect mixed experiences and opinions on the best course of action.

okay, I think that
@N**
understands they have 3 choices

1 - do nothing pay the 4000 baht overstay fine at the airport when you leave (DON'T run amuck during the time you're on overstay)

2 - border bounce and get a new 30 day visa exempt entry

3 - go to the immigration office and get the extension denied 7 day stamp for 1900baht and then have one day of overstay on the day they fly out.

I think we're done ;)

Buy a direct flight to KUL or HKG from Samui. Better than being on overstay.

If you choose for the overstay for these 8 days, be aware that IF something happens or you accidentally walk into a police check, you go jail, court and getting deported with a 5 year blacklist.

You could do a border bounce...or you could go to immigration and pay ฿1,900 for the 7 day stamp which is still less than the ฿3,500 in over stay bill at the airport

pay the overstay

they did not put anything in mine I went to chang wattana to tell them I need to stay few days more they told me to pay the over stay at the airport and not to be worried...No STAMP

@Iker ******
you are sadly mistaken they DO put an overstay stamp in your passport and IF that person is caught out on something else while on overstay they can really have a problem.

Here's a 2 day overstay stamp

because it is a very short overstay and they do not put any stamp in the passport ..not worth in my opinion all the hassle of the visa run...in 9 years I did one time a 4 days overstay I was worried for no reason...I just pay 2000 no stamp no problem.

and pray tell why would you say they should pay a 4000baht overstay fine AND get the overstay stamp in their passport rather than go get another 30 day visa exempt entry?

do a border bounce to Malaysia.

I tnink you can buy a furyher 7 days?

@Tod ********
it leaves her 1 day short...or maybe no days depending on when she gets to the airport...12 June end visa waiver...7 days go to 19 June...1 day to 20 June or maybe she has an O’dark thirty flight where she will be at the airport at 2200-0000 hours for immigration...no idea

@Nat ******
you go back to the immigration office where you got your 30 day extension, apply for another extension which will be denied and they will sell you an "application for extension NOT approved" 7 day stamp to get out of thailand in a week for 1900baht.

Then you would only have one day overstay when you fly out. ;)

how and where?

which still leaves her short :/

Go on a border run to Malaysia. You would be on 8 days overstay with a fine of 500 Thb a day makes 4.000 Thb. There is no problem if you paid overstay and come back Thailand.
