What should I do if I've overstayed my Thai visa and want to do a border run? Can I return the same day?

I have overstayed my visa by a week, I was told that I must fly out now to reset It, a border run isn’t an option anymore since I went over is that true?

If thats true and I fly to Malaysia, can I fly back the same day or do I have to stay for at least 24 hours?

Hi I got question too. I got Thai Tourist visa and I forgot its 60 days and that +30 days I need to extent at immigration. Now I overstayed basically those 60 days by 7 days. If I go tomorrow to immigration to extent those other 30 days will they have issues with it??

You don't need to fly back in, you can come by land BUT I would advise you to stay away for a little while. Nothing wrong with spending a month or two in Cambodia or Laos.

You have roughly a 40% chance of being denied entry at DMK/BKK/HKT, more so at CMX. Go spend some time in another country for a while (6 months) would be my advice.

Just abide by the visa time frame.

No stress...

No excuse to overstay, unless your sick or dead..

 yes, VALID reasons. But being slack then worrying is not one of them. Sick or dead or in prison.

Thai government is much easier than than other countries, where an overstay without valid cause may ban you for 3 years.

So many people treat the visa/stay conditions with contempt.

 Again......a day or a week or a month. Don't over stay. Not picking but too consistently see this same post. You'll survive a stupid choice but prepare for the stupid prize and the Thai authority's will take opportunity's awarding them.

CNX Chiang Mai supposedly not as many problems to reenter as using DMK.

Still true (if it ever was)

 Not many airlines fly directly into Chiang Mai from another country. Might as well return by land from say Laos, which is easy going BUT still best not to return too soon.

You will get overstay stamp and that looks always not good. Therefor it depends on immigration officer when you reenter Thailand. Some has no problems, other make problems. Therefor so many different answers from people.

You will get an overstay stamp in your passport after you paid the fine. If you come back the same day or even within a few days the immigration officer might give you a hard time.

Your not the first person to overstay, but never advisable to do, but you will have to pay the fine at the airport as others have said 500 a day. Then you will be in the hands of the immigration officer when you return, would be my guess.

 no it happens all the time. It has happened to me police stop taxis all the time and will check the passports and confirm with taxi driver where you were picked up and dropped off....Has happened to me since I moved here at12 I'm almost 40 now. This is very common on busses and trains too

You know like when you go on the highway from pattanakarn near there.....they are stationed there, because that's right where everyone merges to get to the airport and the police station is right there in sarinakarin.

Av Giuliano True, but there's a greater chance of being stopped on a highway leading to a border than inside Bangkok city, where the chance of anyone stopping a random person traveling by taxi or car or even the train, is next to nil.
