TLDR : Answer Summary
A UK citizen with a multiple entry tourist visa for 180 days may or may not need to show an onward ticket upon arrival in Thailand. It largely depends on the airline’s policy. Some airlines might check for an onward ticket only if you do not have a visa, while others may require proof regardless of having a visa. It is recommended to verify with the airline before traveling.

Nni, you have a 170 day visa. Your return ticket will reflect that.
Simon ********
It depends on the airline. Qantas sometimes does require one, Thai Airways from Australia to Thailand doesn’t.

I bought a mostly refundable ticket when we came to Bangkok in July. No one asked. Just went to Singapore yesterday for 4 hrs. Was holding an evisa but nothing in my passport yet. No one asked anything.
Lisa ********
Sorry I was incorrect on the name. It is a tourist entry 60 days, then you apply for another 30 days (you have 90 days total in Thailand as a tourist). But I did have to show proof of onward ticket when I checked in at the airport

@Lisa *******
no problem. Thanks for responding

I had to show an onward ticket last Thursday travelling Swissair - Spain to Bangkok (NZ Passport) on a 90 day tourist visa

@Lisa *******
... there is no such thing as a 90 day tourist visa!

@Rob ******
im assuming single entry tourist visa which has 90 day validity.
Rob *******
@David **********
... it has 90 day validity to arrive in Thailand from the date issued but only 60 days actually permitted in Thailand when you're stamped in at immigration, hence it's a 60 day visa.

@Rob ******
thats only opinion to be fair Rob. Im happy to consider it 90 days in the same way as i consider the METV 180 days. Not really relevant regardless
Paul *******
@David **********
Well you’re 100% wrong. Rob is correct. It’s a 60 day tourist visa. It’s not about opinions. It’s about facts.
David ***********
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Paul ******
nonsense. The validity is 90 day single, 180 METV. Its all on the websites
Paul *******
@David **********
When you apply for a Thailand 60-day Tourist Visa (TR), the visa itself is normally valid for 90 days from the date of issue.

That means:

• You have 90 days to enter Thailand from the date the visa is issued.

• Once you enter Thailand, you’ll be given 60 days stay at immigration.
Paul *******
@David **********
It’s not what you think it is. You’re wrong. Yes you get to use it within 90 days of it being issued. But you’re only ever allowed 60 days in Thailand. You could actually get stamped in on day 90 for 60 days. So does that make its 150 day visa? It’s a 60 day TR visa. Just you making shit up doesn’t mean it’s a fact. Learn to read correctly. No such thing as a 90 day single visa.

@Paul ******
no. as long as you clock in on day 90 ie the last day then the 90 day visa has been fulfilled. The fact you stay 5 days or 85 days thereafter doesnt change the visas validity. Are you saying a non immigrant b visa is a 1 year visa or a 90 day visa ?
Paul *******
@David **********
You can’t stay 85 days because it’s a 60 day visa. If you go on day one you get 60 days on arrival. If you go on day 90 you still get 60 days. It’s a 60 day visa valid for entry upto 90 days after issue. How do you not understand ? If you arrive on day 90 your visa is activated for 60 days. So it’s just started. Not been fulfilled until your 60 days have expired

I don’t know about a non b.

But I do know a non O visa is a 90 day visa. Mine. I can then extend it for a year. So it becomes a 1 year visa.
David ***********
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Paul ******
then check and give me an answer. Its all on any visa website. Is the Non immigrant b a year visa or a 90 days visa. Lets see if your logic stacks up......
Paul *******
@David **********
omg you’re crazy. The tourist visa is a 60 day visa. Non O visas are 90 days. Then can be extended for 12 months. So

So I don’t see your point but I looked up a non b visa. It’s a 90 day visa. Or you can get a year multi entry one. ?????
David ***********
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Paul ******
the non immigrant b is a 1 year visa. Its there in writing. The fact that you leave every 90 days doesnt make it 4 x 90 day visa. Same as METV. Its a 180 day visa but you need to leave every
*****
days. Its still a 180 day visa. Its not difficult to understand
Paul *******
@David **********
what are you talking about? Nothing to do with you being wrong about the 60 day visa.

Now you’re just rambling on about other visas.

Thai Non-Immigrant “B” Visa (Business Visa) – Overview

• Purpose: For foreigners intending to work, conduct business, or undertake investment in Thailand.

• Types:

• Single-entry: Valid for 90 days from entry.

• Multiple-entry: Valid for 1 year, with each stay limited to 90 days unless extended.

You’re talking utter nonsense about everything. There’s visas with limits. You either get single entry or multiple entry.

It’s not a 1 year visa. It’s a multiple entry visa valid for 90 days each time you enter. Valid for a year of multiple entry.

Non O visas can be a real one year visas where you don’t need to leave. You stay for a full year.

It seems like everything for you is difficult to understand. Because you don’t understand visas at all. Completely wrong and just talk shit. 💩

I’ve never been asked by the airline when I had an actual visa. However, the airline may ask if you don’t have a visa (i.e. visa exempt entry). They’re supposed to check if you have the required onward ticket if no visa. Some airlines check. Some don’t.

@Doug *****
Formally, an exit ticket is required for all tourist entries. Certain embassies require documentation of at least two entry and two exit tickets before issuing an METV. The requirement is generally applied more strictly in connection with visa exemptions than with tourist visas. The final decision rests anyway with the airline and immigration.

@James *******
thanks. What about thai immigration ?. Last year i was asked at immigration but that was on visa free.

@David **********
that's a good question.

I replied yesterday to another Post where I suggested the METV Multiple Entry Tourist Visa to the poster.

I'm surprised that the Thai Embassy or Consulate did not ask about your CV first time departing Thailand using the METV.

BUT you NOW HAVE the METV. Thai Immigration upon arrival will stamp you in for 60 days.

Your airline is the key 🗝️...

Suggest you ask them if you need to show you departing in 60 days...?? If they do, buy a cheap one way flight departing Thailand to ... One of several locations...

Phnom Penh, Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City, Etc...use Google flights to find a cheap ticket.

I replied yesterday..

"Perry Robinson the METV multiple entry Tourist Visa is valid for use for 6 MONTHS from the date it's issued.

Therefore don't apply for it too soon.

Upon your arrival into Thailand...

You are stamped in for 60 days...

That can be extended for 30 ADDED days at your local Thai Immigration office for 1900 Thai baht...

OR...

do a border bounce by land, sea or by Air.. getting a New 60 day stamp on arrival.

That can be done on the same day return...with planning. As not all Land border crossings allow for same day return. One or two nights stay in the visiting country may be required.

Repeat the process...get a NEW 60 day STAMP with one 30 day extension of stay.

2+1+2+1+2+1 = 9 months maximum.

Be sure to leave Thailand a day or two prior to your stamped ending date each time.

If you are going to use a BORDER BOUNCE, use an experienced border run service company to take you with a same day return. They arrange for your exit and re-entry same day. There's several fine companies who offer the same day BORDER BOUNCE services.

At this time, All Cambodia land border crossings are CLOSED.

AND All Myanmar land border crossings are CLOSED.

There's a BORDER BOUNCE service company in Ranong, South Thailand which makes a same day BORDER BOUNCE to Myanmar and back.

Flights ✈️ are low prices to several SE Asian locations... Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam, Phnom Penh Cambodia, and Singapore...to name a few. Again, with flight ✈️ schedules, same day return is possible.

When you apply for the METV...show a trip departing Thailand within the first 60 or 90 days... which demonstrates the need for the METV multiple entry tourist visa. Just show the desired flight date, destination and airline. No actual ticket needed.
@ Tod *******
s is the expert on the METV multiple entry tourist visa, in my opinion.

He's advised MANY of it's use on this Thai Visa Advice forum."
