TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for a multiple entry tourist visa to Thailand as a UK citizen, you need to provide proof of a flight into Thailand and a flight out of Thailand within 60 days, alongside a subsequent flight back into Thailand. This demonstrates your intent to enter multiple times. However, some users have reported that they were only asked for their entry and exit tickets after longer stays, suggesting there may be some flexibility depending on the situation.

Of cause you need to show the Thai authorities, that you intent to leave within the visa / visa excempt scheme you arrived into Thailand on.

Same here, aplied METV in Canada last year. Showed only ticket in and out of Thai after 5 months. Was asked for an written timetable of my plans but was not asked for a ticket out of Thai after 60 days.

I use the multi entry US visa, and enter my departure flight at the end of the 6 month visa validation. I've never been asked, or been concerned about a 60 day exit ticket.

bBuy full fare tickets and cancel when you are there.

when I go to extend my visa for the 30 days do I need to show proof of accommodation and a flight out of Thailand again do you no ?
Javier ********
Make sure you buy tickets that you can cancel for free and once you get the visa you cancel them.

You need to show a flight into Thailand, a flight out of Thailand within 60 days, and then another flight back into Thailand. This is your justification for "multiple" entries showing that you are entering Thailand multiple times. If you do not provide justification they may issue you a single entry visa and keep the difference in price.

visa requirements to enter Thailand are the same if you apply at the embassy in DC, or a consulate. I've used both.

no US. British requirements pretty much mirror them from what my expat UK friends say.

Sorry just to confirm when I apply for the multi entry visa do I have to provide proof of my return flights for each time I plan of leaving and returning

Or do i just proived my return flight for the first exit ?
Brandon ************
@Tom ********
there's 4 different consulates in the US and they are all different. Same with other countries.
Tom *********
Brandon. I show a flight out of Thailand at the end of six months and that's it.

I've used a multiple entry visa every 6 months since 2008

@Tom ********
do you use the embassy in London?

@Brandon ***********
It doesn’t need to be a flight ticket. It could also be a train or bus ticket.

this is something I was wondering ,

Can I buy a ticket from onwardtravel and use this when applying for the visa ? Do they check the ticket
Frank *****************
@XNatell *****************
You need the ticket as proof of you leaving Thailand. You can book the ticket online.
Brandon ************
@Frank ****************
there's no train or bus tickets out of Thailand. They're all transition tickets at the border since there's no buses or trains that cross the border.
Steve *******
@Brandon ***********
Incorrect. There are buses that cross the border. Ubon to Pakse(Laos) via Chong Mek, Mukdahan to Savannakhet(Laos) via the Friendship bridge, Ubon to O'smach(Cambodia) via Chong Chom are 3 that I know of. I'm sure there must be more.
Frank *****************
@Brandon ***********
If you read a Thai Embassy site you wil see that they don’t specify a flight ticket. They just say a ticket out of Thailand.
Brandon ************
@Frank ****************
And I'm telling you that there are no bus or train tickets OUT of Thailand. A bus or train ticket to the Thai side of the border will not count as proof of leaving Thailand. And there are no trains or buses that cross the border to take you out of Thailand. Any train or bus will take you to the Thai border and then you must cross the border and get on a new train or bus.

@Brandon ***********
there is a bus that goes from Udon Thani bus terminal number 2 to Vientiane. I've not gone on it, but they say at the terminal where you buy the ticket that you must already have a Laos visa.
Steve *******
@Brandon ***********
If you don't have any form of your own transport then you HAVE to take a bus across the Friendship bridge at Mukdahan. Walking across is forbidden by Thai and Laos Immigration.
Brandon ************
@Steve ******
that's not a cross border bus though. You can't buy a ticket to show. You just use that bus to get from one immigration checkpoint to the other.
Steve *******
@Brandon ***********
Nope you can buy tickets at Mukdahan and Ubon bus terminals. The bus to Savannakhet leaves from Mukdahan bus terminal
Andy **********
@Steve ******
yes I've been on that bus from mukdahan to savannakhet, but what Brandon thurkettle is trying to tell you, the bus stops at the Thai immigration, you stamp out of Thailand, it then it goes across the friendship bridge and stops at Lao immigration, you then need to buy a Lao visa, and walk around on to the Lao side, and arrange another bus or taxi, to go into savannakhet, the bus you crossed the bridge on, it then turns around and goes back to the Thai immigration, and then back to mukdahan bus station, I've done it few times doing border bounces.
Steve *******
@Andy *********
Yes, Of course the bus stops at Immigration but the point is you CAN buy a bus ticket online from Mukdahan to Savannakhet, Laos, thus providing onward travel by bus.
Andy **********
@Steve ******
I would say it's a ticket to the Thai/savannakhet border, not savannakhet itself, but anyway it's a matter of opinion I suppose, but the opinion that matters, is the opinion of the people issuing visas, and I read these visa pages quite often, and people seem to always suggest they will only accept a flight ticket, showing your exit plan within the time you're stamp in for, and a bus or train ticket will be rejected, personally I've only ever purchased a cheap flight ticket to a neighbouring country, and it's always been accepted.

@Brandon ***********
You can buy a ticket from Nong Khai to Ventiene as well. This is just one ticket out of Thailand and it’s normally sufficient regarding boarder crossings. You can also just purchase an onward ticket.

@Brandon ***********
On 12go you can book a Bus ticket from BKK to Phnom Penh. That will be a ticket out of Thailand.
Frank *****************
@Brandon ***********
It is correct that the train stops at the border and then continue on the other side of the border. But you have a train/bus ticket for the entire route and in that way it does not necessarily have to be a plane ticket.

"Is there a direct bus between Bangkok and Cambodia?

Yes, there is a direct bus departing from Bangkok Mochit Bus Terminal and arriving at Phnom Penh. Services depart five times a day, and operate every day. The journey takes approximately 12h 30m."

"Evidence of travel to Thailand (air ticket paid in full).

A minimum of two inbound and outbound tickets are required for multiple entries visa."

If I apply for a single visa , after the 60 days , how many times can I fly out of Thailand and then back in without ?

As a uk citizen I no I get a free 30 days so each time I fly back into Thailand can I then extend .

Or do you think getting a multi entry visa would be better

Thank you so much for your help

@XNatell *****************
If you enter with a tourist visa and then leave and return visa exempt, you can probably do that 2 times, on the 2nd time they may warn you, but the 3rd time they'll most likely pull you out of line and ask you why you're spending so much time in Thailand without a long term visa.
