I have a question about the return flight ticket, which some airlines check upon departure.

A multiple tourist visa was approved by the Thai Embassy Berlin with the return flight submitted. 11 days after the visa expires

can cause problems

when checking in

Thank you

TLDR : Answer Summary
The question addresses concerns about needing to present a return flight ticket when departing for Thailand with a multiple entry tourist visa. Typically, airlines require proof of onward travel if travelers do not hold a valid visa. However, for those with a valid visa (like the multiple-entry tourist visa), this requirement is generally waived, but it's always advisable to check with the airline beforehand. Additionally, the discussions in the comments suggest that booking an onward ticket to a nearby country can be a practical solution, as it's often less costly and sufficient for proving travel intentions.

Check with your airline what their policy is as there is a real possibility that you might be asked for proof of onward travel within 60 days of arrival and denied travel without it.

you just need to buy an onward ticket to another country. they can not ask about when are you going back to home after the trip to another country. Their concern is only about their country. On ward ticket cost only 16 Euros you can cancel it after arriving.

I have been wondering about this when I come to apply for my marriage visa next year. Can onward travel be any place outside the country and not a return ticket to the country of origin? For instance a ticket out of Thailand to Siam Reap, Singapore, or other nearby location. Even if I didn't make the trip I would not be out very much money compared to a return ticket to the US. It may be dependent on the airline though.

Yes it can be PROOF of any flight ✈️ departing Thailand within the 30 days you stamped in on arrival into Thailand.

People try to post questions asking about onward travel a LOT and most of them we deny..

This is how that 'proof of onward travel' usually works

If you're flying into thailand without a valid visa in your passport (coming in visa on arrival, visa exempt or visa waiver) you CAN be asked by the air carrier for proof of onward travel within the number of days you will be stamped in for when you check in for your flight.

Now on the other hand IF you have a valid visa or an extension w/re-entry permit, as a rule the air carrier will NOT ask for proof of onward travel..

Either way if you manage to board your flight to thailand without showing proof of onward travel you will most likely NOT be asked anything at passport control when you stamp in (A few people with extensive entry/stay histories HAVE been asked for onward travel when stamping in but most are not)

SO to answer your question Norbert Zaborowski, as a rule because you have a valid visa you should not be asked for onward travel by your air carrier <- BUT check with them, once you're here you will be fine going thru passport control with the ticket out you have now
