Hi Everyone. I am flying to Thailand tomorrow and have everything ready re. Thailand Pass and 60 day Tourist Visa 💥 however, I just wanted to check (as it was unclear online) whether I need evidence of onwards travel... Planning to stay in Thailand for 5/6 weeks ish and haven't booked any onwards flights yet.

Any info would be great, thanks !!!

TLDR : Answer Summary
When traveling to Thailand on a 60-day Tourist Visa, an onward flight ticket is generally required. While immigration may not always enforce this rule, airlines often require proof of onward travel before boarding. If you haven't booked a return flight, consider purchasing a changeable ticket or using a service to buy a temporary onward flight for around $10 to avoid potential issues at the check-in desk. While some travelers report not being asked for onward travel proof, it's safer to err on the side of caution.

I came in on a 60 day tourist visa without onward travel and no one asked for proof of it but it is possible they could!

@Rob *****
I cannot believe it, I applied yesterday and it was in my inbox just a few hours later!

Was convinced there would be an issue as I hadn’t got a letter from the hotel and just uploaded a copy of the booking!!!!!

Yannick *********
How much does a 60 day tourist visa cost? I can’t seem to find the price anywhere😅
Stuart *********
@Yannick ********
depends on the country but approx ÂŁ30 (for the UK)

@Stuart ********
do you apply via the thai embassy website ?
Stuart *********
@Jason **************
depends on what country. Many now use the online evisa system so you don’t go to the embassy or even send in your passport. It’s all done online via email.

UK is on the evisa system. All done online.

@Stuart ********

Jesus Christ ! What a piss about that is !

Kept getting logged off and having to fill things in time after time , then they want to know everything bar how big my dick is !

Think I’ll just go to the immigration office while I’m over there it’s miles easier

Welcome to the inner workings of the Thai entry system. You seem to have stalled at step 1.

Perhaps someone at some point in time will possibly realise how f#%*ing stupid it all is and perhaps ponder why Mr and Mrs Joe Average aren’t coming to Thailand anymore.
Wayne *********
@Jason **************
can not apply for tourist visa inside Thailand but you can apply for 30 days extension to your 30 days visa exempt entry

@Wayne ********
I’d rather have day at immigration than do that online application,, ridiculous the amount of personal details you’ve to upload ,, it took me 20 different pics of my passport for it to accept it ,, and it just got worse as I went further on .
Wayne *********
@Jason **************
online evisa must be bad never had to do it. The TR60 in Australia was easy to do, but we also have to send passport to Sydney or cambera as our visa get glued into the passport.
Jason ***************
@Wayne ********
I’ve never known anything like it mate ., they wanna know everything bad how big your Hampton is ,, and thinking about it , there’s that many fooking sections to it there might have been an Hampton upload request at the end lol 😂

Bank details , statements , wages , how regular ,, and on and on mate .

Then it crashes or skips back a section so you’ve it all to do again , I’ve just rang my fiancée and told her about it , I’d rather spend 48 hours at the immigration office than do that fucking thing
Wayne *********
@Jason **************
immigration with all forms only took me 45 minutes
Jason ***************
@Wayne ********
yeah I’ve done it myself a few times mate , even when it’s busy ( I was there when COVID struck ) I was still only a few hours .
Jason ***************
@Wayne ********
yeah I know , that’s the plan mate 👍😊
Jason ***************
@Stuart ********
oh yeah ,, thanks for that mate 😊

Depends on the person checking you in at immigration. Hassled me but not the three friends I was with at different gates. So yeah yah
Steve *******
Yes. I doubt you'll be able to board your flight without return/onward travel.

Yes, yes, and yes. Once more, yes!

Stock answer as asked many times here.

If you are entering on a long term visa, like a Non O or Non OA or Thailand Elite you do not need an onward flight out from Thailand.

If on a visa exempt entry or tourist visa you need to have a flight ticket out of Thailand within the amount of days that your initial entry allows, regardless that you can get an extension in country. It doesn’t need to be a return ticket, any ticket out of Thailand will suffice.

In theory immigration can deny you entry if you don’t but they rarely ever would, because they know you can get an extension.

Almost always the hang up will be when you try to board your plane. Many airlines will not allow you to board without an onward ticket within the number of days.

Some will let you. Many won’t. You probably don’t want to be the one scrambling to buy an onward ticket at the check in desk. Best option is a changeable ticket, and just change the date when you’re here.

Alternatively you can Google “onward flight ticket” and you’ll find a plethora of companies willing to sell you one for around $10. A real ticket, Phuket to Singapore, would be approx £25/$35 depending on the time of year.

You’ll probably get a number of replies saying “I managed to enter with no problem, therefore you won’t have one either.” Well you won’t find out which way it’ll go until you get to the check in desk.

Hello all. Just wanted to let everyone know that I DID need to have evidence of a return or onwards flight at immigration when I landed in Thailand.
Stuart *********
@Margot *********
You and many others. More often than not it’ll be the airlines that stop you, but it can be at the immigration counter too. People can take a chance if they want to. But that’s what it is - chance.
Pete *******
@Stuart ********
Complete rubbish, you can enter visa exempt without having a return flight.
Stuart *********
@Pete ******
Oh, so you can speak for the thousands that have found out the hard way that you can’t? As my post says, some get away with it but many more won’t. Generally if it’s a short haul flight from around Asia the airlines don’t care, but a long haul flight and it’s usually a different story.
Pete *******
@Stuart ********
I repeat, complete rubbish, entry via visa exempt does not require an onward flight. Please point me to the relevant immigration regulation that supports your claim.
Stuart *********
@Pete ******
still waiting on a site that supports your claims. Perhaps you haven’t been able to find one. Perhaps you were just confused. Perhaps the next time you post wild claims you may want to investigate further. I doubt you’ll admit that you were incorrect, but perhaps you may.

I don’t have a link to the actual Thai law but here’s one where they’ve translated it into English. Feel free to peruse.

If you do a Google search like this

You’ll find every single site says that you do.

If you have a link to anywhere that says you don’t then please advise. They’ll be wrong, but it might be interesting reading.

This is the Thai embassy in London website. Perhaps they’ve got it wrong too.

Doesn’t have to be a return flight, just a flight out of Thailand to anywhere.
