Hi, I am in the process of applying for a multiple entry tourist visa from the UK and they want proof of return flight. Do I therefore need to book an outgoing flight from Thailand within 60 days of arriving or within 6 months?

TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for a multiple entry tourist visa (METV) from the UK, you typically need to show proof of an outgoing flight. While the visa itself is valid for 6 months, the flight ticket should indicate a departure within 60 days of your arrival. However, many users have reported that they were accepted with a return ticket well after the 60-day mark, as long as it falls before the visa expiration.

Simple anser, yes you will need a ticket out of Thailand whitin 60 days.

Just got a METV from Liverpool, expires 13th May and our return flights are booked 8th June. No problems getting visa or entering Bangkok. Liverpool saying they are overwhelmed dealing with visas from London due to online applications. Was even informed how to get nearly 9 months by consulate.

Benjamin Hays I am aware it is the last day you can enter Thailand. Poster was asking did they need to book to leave within 60 days or 6 months, my answer was we needed neither based on our experience arriving 22nd November. Our only proof of leaving was 8th June back to UK, which is beyond the visa expiry date.

The day the visa expires isn't the day you have to leave Thailand

I had an open return flight and put down a date 6months from my arrival into thailand and they accepted it.

Better ask Empassy .. in others places some ask for return or outing ticket within 60 days

Book a fully refundable return ticket. And then make choices later in your trip.

metv visa is valid 6 months. The return tiket need to be no over the expiry date of your visa ( 6 months )

If necessary book a ticket to another country (bus or train may be acceptable) or contact the embassy and ask them. They will tell you what they will accept.

Your outgoing ticket can be to anywhere.

Is there any reason not to just use your return ticket for the end of your trip?

One of the purposes of the METV is to travel around the region while entering Thailand multiple times.

Not London, but for my recent METV in Melbourne I only submitted my final flight out after 5 months and I got the visa without any problems.

for single entry visas yes. For the METV I don't know. It may be possible to use your flight back to the UK.

I suggest you contact the embassy. They are pretty helpful.

As I want to stay in Thailand, get an extension and go home later on in the year. Yes, I will leave my return flight for the very end.I think I need proof I am leaving the country within 60 days right?

What embassy are you using?

I have no problem with my visa as I can renew it easily over here. I am commenting on all and I mean 100% of my friends that come over for up to 6months have great difficulty in obtaining a visa with this online system, a lot have giving up trying and are coming on a 30 day stamp, then 30day extension and then going to Vietnam for a change. This online system is a disaster imo.

@Benjamin *****
there’s only one embassy per country. You mean consulate.
