TLDR : Answer Summary
Inquiring about the best medical insurance for a ONE-year Non-O immigration visa (retirement), the consensus is that medical insurance is not a requirement for the Non-O visa applied for in Thailand, unlike the Non-OA visa that necessitates it when applied for in the UK. For those considering applying for a Non-OA after 60 days in Thailand, medical insurance and financial proof would be needed. A practical suggestion is to initially obtain a 3-month Non-O visa in the UK, then secure a 12-month extension in Thailand, which doesn't require insurance but does require a certain amount of money to be maintained in a Thai bank account.

One year insurance is going to be expensive. Suggest get a 3 month Non O in UK. Then get 12 month extension in Thailand - doesn't require insurance but does require 800k TB in Thai Bank account for 2 months before you apply. Also you can only apply within the last

days of your visa's end date - unless you get an agent to do it for you.

Can't I apply for Non OA after 60 days in Thailand? Would I then need medical insurance and financial proof etc..

No, Non-OAs can only be obtained outside Thailand.

you can't get a non-OA in Thailand, those are only available from your home country. You can get a non-O in Thailand.

The reason people generally get non-OA is because they can show the required funds in their home country without having to transfer it to a Thai bank account, but it also has an insurance requirement.

Whereas the non-O does not have insurance requirement but requires you to season funds in a Thai bank account.

0 in Thai bank then ?

Thanks ๐Ÿ™

@Russell ******
yes, but you can get 2 years from a non-OA if you leave Thailand and re-enter right before it expires. Many people return home after 2 years and get a new one, never requiring them to send 800,000 to Thailand.

Will my employer's insurance plan satisfy this requirement?

you'll have to check with your local consulate. There has been some big changes for the insurance requirement over the last 3-6 months and some consulates have updated their policies and some have not.
