TLDR : Answer Summary
No, you generally cannot enter Thailand on a tourist visa while your Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) application is still pending. Most responses from the community emphasize that it is advisable to remain in the country where you submitted your DTV application until it is approved. Entering Thailand could risk your application being rejected, particularly if your application is flagged for having been submitted while you were in Thailand. Several individuals shared their personal experiences, indicating that while it may be technically possible to enter, it carries significant risks.

Per the Los Angeles Consulate website:

Per the regulation, the Consulate "cannot" issue a visa for foreign nationals who are not in Consulate's juridiction and who arecurrently in Thailand. All travelers need to obtain a visa before entering Thailand. *If you entered Thailand without a visa, please contact the Immigration Bureau (immigration.go.th) to explore the options in your case*

Yes, you can, absolutely. You'd be risking that your DTV might be rejected, but that's the "only" thing that could happen. About entering, you can enter.

It's not advised but yes you can, the embassy and immigration aren't linked and the only way they will know is if they look at your passport which is very unlikely.

I've got several friends that have done it with no problems.

But to activate your DTV you would have to leave Thailand again and re-enter.

Technically, you can

But you are putting yourself in a Risk ka,

1- some embassies send in the middle of the process ask full passport scan

That moment your passport will show exit ( so your application will be canceled)

2- risk that you are breaking the rule of staying in the country where you apply at.

Then your entry visa exemption to Thailand will be dated before the date of the DTV visa issued

As no one can guarantee the luck, if the I. O @ airport on your arrival,

To Thailand that time check dates ,he has the full right to deny your entry

3- we really can't understand you guys taking risk ,breaking rules and this is your behavior from the start and even before you come to Thailand, how then your behavior is when you are in here !!

Then when you get deny or stuck in the airport, you start crying on the groups and online !!

Anonymous participant 646 Anything that is not allowed/illegal can be done... Until getting caught. There is a clear warning on the website saying you can't come back to Thailand. Your tourist entry stamp and DTV issuing date will not disappear... It may work, may not, may work for sometime until not anymore.

Anonieme deelnemer 646 What a stupid reaction that it can be done, almost anything that should not be done or is not allowed can be done.

And for now you are only sure you could enter Thailand, but you still risk problems using the DTV for the first time, because it just is visible you ignored the rules, so when you have bad luck and got checked by IO when you enter on DTV, you might be stopped.

They called me up for interview. Checked my passport discovered I bought time by submitting application 1 day before leaving TH. Rejected. Wasted money which is 100% my own fault. You are welcome to follow such and risk losing your application and $.

Anonymous participant 646 good luck when you do your 90 day report and they check your VISA issued data and the date entered and when you stamped in!

Someone a few weeks ago had theirs rejected when they caught on when doing the 90 day report.

Anonieme deelnemer 646 There might be no legal reason not to enter the country, but not following the rules for app;ication of a visa are a valid reason to reject the application, and not following the rules can also be a reason for extra checks at the border when you have DTV. It will be visible forever you did not follow the rules because DTV was applied while you were in Thailand.

no the DTV was applied while outside of thailand. Returned to Thailand once it was subject to approval. Application was done outside.

Anonieme deelnemer 646 you should stay outside the country during the COMPLETE application, not only at the start of the application.

Correct. The tourist stamp will remain in the passport (or database). The day immigration is willing to make some extras, they can do so with a date crosscheck.

If you leave the country you applyed in and go to Thailand, then you highten the risk of being rejected.

Or you may be called in for a interview, and have to return ro the country applyed in.

Most Thai consulates don't call you in for interviews. However, it's still best not to enter Thailand until your visa has been approved.
