Can I re-enter Thailand on a DTV visa after temporarily leaving the country?

Hi,

I applied for a DTV visa in the US more than a month ago and it hasn't been approved yet (pending documents check). I already have a flight booked to leave for Thailand on May 6th. If I do not have the DTV visa approved by then, I can still enter Thailand on a tourist visa. My question is if I eventually get the DTV visa approved while I am in Thailand, can I fly out to another country in Asia and return and re-enter Thailand on the DTV visa? Thank you everyone.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about re-entering Thailand on a DTV visa after initially entering on a tourist visa, given that their DTV visa application is still pending. Several commenters mention their own experiences with delays in the visa approval process and suggest contacting the consulate for updates. Some express concern that the one-month wait for approval is excessive, implying that the application may have issues while others clarify that, as an American, she is visa-exempt and can enter Thailand without a visa.

I am visa exempt as an American to enter Thailand.

Thanks everyone. To give some context, I applied online for DTV as a self employed business owner. In my initial submission, I provided my business Article of Incorporation from California together with many other required documents.

2.5 weeks later, I receive further request for documents that includes business certification. Not sure exactly what they are looking for, I quickly submitted the Certificate of Status from the California Secretary of State.

After waiting for another 2 weeks, I called the LA consulate to help expedite since I only have 2 weeks left. Soon I received another request for Business registration. Again I have no idea what business registration they wanted since I don't have any, I immediately submitted my city business tax registration certificate. I just tried calling the consulate to help expedite, and was told I have to wait for at least 1 week before they will consider expediting.

I heard if you do not get your visa by 14 days, there is/was a problem and your application failed & must re-apply.

Call and ask them to take a look at your application. I did and it was approved soon after.

1 month? Gosh. It's ridiculous.

A friend of mine applied for DTV in US and was waiting for her approval. She logged in and discovered a message “waiting for payment”. She wouldn’t have known what the hold up was unless she checked. Evidently they don’t contact the applicants if something is missing. You have to contact them.

Contact your congressmen office they can contact the consulate to ask about the process or time frame

Yes you can do that although in theory you are supposed to wait in the country of application until approval.

One month seems excessive. Perhaps try contacting them via messenger to check.

is there a messenger where you can inquire about the status of your DTV visa application? If yes, can you please share the details where and how can it be used? Thank you,

Messenger. The companion app to Facebook. Many embassies have accounts and tend to reply quicker than emails or phone calls.
