Can I apply for the DTV while in Thailand on a tourist visa?

Also, can you recommend any agencies that offer faster processing or assistance?

TLDR : Answer Summary
No, you cannot apply for the DTV (Digital Nomad Visa) while in Thailand on a tourist visa. Applications must be submitted from outside Thailand, as many embassies require proof of entry into the country where you are applying. While some agencies may offer assistance, they typically charge a substantial fee and provide no faster processing than applying directly yourself. It's advisable to perform the application process independently if possible, as much of the necessary information is freely available.

No, you cannot apply for or get a DTV while inside thailand. You will have to leave the country and apply there. If you are already in thailand then consider flying to Vietnam and doint the evisa process or get an appointment in Laos - Vientiane and do it in person…. An agency cannot really help you with obtaining a DTV. the information you need is all for free in this fb group available.

That should not be possible. If any agent tell you otherwise, dont pay before you have the visa in your hand.

0 baht. Probably better to do it all yourself. The agents are really pushing their luck with this one

Last couple I heard were charging 100 to 150k. Making hay.

I think they've seen the writing on the wall. People switching from non-O previously paying 25k+ per year for a dodgy visa have realised they can get a five year visa for 10k that's totally legitimate. I'm sure the DTV has already sent tremors through the agencies. They're now making a grab for money through DTV

Thinking further and not just Pattaya. If Immigration sees a significant fall due to this anywhere they will certainly look at the DTV of ex retirees much more closely. Immigration are still the ones responsible for entry and extensions. As the saying goes, "Never break a man's rice bowl".

Plus I daresay once immigration offices start getting pedantic about the DTV extensions (eg possible requirement of 500k in a Thai bank account, health insurance etc) it will open up new avenues for agents representing people who just want to remain in Thailand for as long as possible without border hops. So there's a new avenue of "tea money" possible. The DTV is certainly a game-changer

Yeah. For those on soft power they could ask for ongoing proof of attendance or proof of previous attendance. Look what happened with Ed visas and people stopped. I know one guy personally stopped from re-entering and had to go to Cambodia for a tourist visa. Held at immigration till his flight but just an office at Swampy.

I have known people pulled up flying in on valid visas. Immigration still control entry and there are other areas they could just be awkward. None of us have crystal balls so we will just have to wait and see how it pans out. I am still considering DTV but have 6 months leeway.

That's true, but generally if you have a multi-entry visa there's no hassles flying in. The big issues might be with extensions, but as I see one of the biggest advantages of the DTV is total avoidance of pedantic immigration offices I won't be looking for any in-country extensions

I have not heard of any of the Pattaya agencies offering it yet. If a significant number of Non-O jumped to DTV here it would make a significant dent in the rice bowl of both agents and Immigration. Pretty guaranteed to be a backlash and details looked into ;-) :-) PS it is between 8k and 13k after first year for renewals

No. You need to be outside Thailand and in the country to which you are applying. Some Embassies etc want to see your entry stamp to that country or proof you are there. Agencies will charge you but applications go in the same queue as others at the particular embassy.
