TLDR : Answer Summary
When waiting for your DTV visa approval, it's generally advised to stay in the country where you applied for the visa. Traveling to Thailand during this period can lead to complications such as visa rejection without a refund or additional documentation requests upon entry. While some suggest entering Thailand on a tourist visa and then doing a border run once the DTV is approved, the safest route appears to be remaining where you are until the visa process is complete.

People here just like to bang their heads against the wall to see if it really hurt ..

Hahahahahahahahahah 😂😂😂😂 what happens when you jump into the water??? You get wet 🤣🤣
Helen ********
What Embassy did you apply at? Some state on the site that you must remain in country until the DTV is issued. Check to see if the one you applied at shows this. Some people had success, others were called in for an interview, some were questioned at immigration when they noticed the stamps and date visa was issued. Impossible to say if this will work for you or not.

You have to apply in advance and plan to stay in the same county a couple of weeks, but if they keep delaying and asking for more and more documents online, it's not your problem. Changing flights and accommodation plans can be expensive so I would just arrive in Thailand, get a tourist stamp, then when the DTV is approved online, leave and re enter
James ********
Stay in the country where you will be applying for the DTV visa until it's either approved or denied.
Andrea *********
I'd enter on a 60day tourist visa and do a border run after you have received the DTV
James ********
And if you are asked to submit ADDED documents or even a personal interview with the Thai Embassy or Consulate, then what?
Andrea *********
@James *******
My DTV is an evisa and I was asked to upload everything online. I doubt they would know where you upload it from. As of Jan 1, 2025 all Thai visas are evisas.

Of course there is still a certain risk left.
James ********
@Andrea ********
I'll say it once again... For those who are going to apply, stay in the country where they are applying for the DTV visa. We are seeing more requests for ADDED documents as well as an interview in person with the Thai Embassy or Consulate in the county where the application is made.

Tell immigration at the airport that you couldn't wait for the DTV and slip a 1000 baht note with your passport, wink at them and ask if there's anyway they can stamp you in for 6 months.😉

As I know you need to apply before you come (you can’t apply if you’re already in Thailand)… and if you come before they approve it, you just go to one trip outside Thailand and come back and them you should have it.

AS I KNOW, I AM NOT SAYING THAT IS 100% RIGHT.

Probably the best if you check on Thai embassy website, and with your country embassy in Thailand.
Ali ******
How would you travel if the embassy has your passport?
Andrea *********
@Ali *****
in many countries it's an evisa.
Henrik *****
How would the Embassy have your passport with a online application.
Ali ******
@Henrik ****
Oh. I didn’t know it was possible to apply for the DTV online. Let me look into that. Thanks
James ********
@Ali *****
as of January 1, all applications for a Thai Visa will be done using the Evisa online application system.

Immigration will start to check soon if the visa was issued while you were in Thailand. And cancel it.

Just because you can apply online doesn't mean the rules don't apply. Your application is still tied to the country you are in when you apply. The best way to think of it is as if you had walked into the consulate in person to apply, you couldn't go anywhere previously as they held on to your passport. They don't now physically do that but you should treat it as if they did.

Has anyone been rejected leaving and coming back to activate their visa?

What about if our flight date is soon and

how long has it been since you applied ?
Alma ***************
@Erin *****
it's been 5 days only..lol! Normally others get it in 3 to 4 days..I still have till 30th to throw in the towel.lol! Then I guess I will be off to manila to wait Bec I won't be allowed to Thailand anymore due to our.multiple 90 days stay..keep positive I know things are slow in turkey. We lived there for a year then came back to Thailand..
Erin ******
@Alma **************
I hope we were able to host you well here.I hope things will work out well for you. Also, thank you so much for your support.

if the embassy knows your flight date they will ask you to show them a ticket to Thailand at a later date. If you can't provide that your application will be refused

I have got a ticket. January 10th

@Erin *****
then hope for the best
Henrik *****
Then you havr to change the flight.

Some Embassies proces the visa according to the departure date ( Not date aplied ) and then the visa come within a week or so before departuredate.

@Erin *****
that's the situation I'm in..welcome to the club.lol!

I applied one and half months ago.it is madness.

Starting January 1, 2025, it should be possible to apply for visas from anywhere in the world. If your visa is pending approval next year, you could simply do a quick border run to activate your DTV. Keep us updated, it will be interesting to know.
James ********
James ********
@Daniel *******
you are still required to be in the country where you are making application for the DTV visa until it's approved or denied.
Tod *********
@Daniel *******
they left out the fact that you have to be IN the country whose consulate you're applying at (and you upload your visa/entry stamp to prove it)

and

then you have to STAY in that country until the DTV is approved when you can enter thailand on it
Daniel ********
@Tod ********
The article could be interpreted as stating that eVisas will become policy starting January 1, 2025. However, the word ‘anywhere’ makes things somewhat intriguing. I’d probably agree with you, but the possibility still exists.
Tod *********
@Daniel *******
but you bring up an interesting point, A lot of consulates have on their website that you have to be IN that country to apply

the UK for example has it clearly posted
Andy ***********
@Tod ********
but in many countrys you dont even get a stamp in your passport. What then?
Raphael ********
@Andy **********
then provide another type of justification, hotel booking, driving license, bills etc
Tod *********
@Daniel *******
all that article meant was the few consulates around the world that weren't on the eVisa website will now ONLY be on it <- meaning no walk up in person applications like we had here in S/E Asia

And it's not a stretch at all to be anywhere in the world because right now the system defaults to the consulate covered by the choice you make ... (and most likely will do that once the other consulates come online)

Example;

When you stay you're in the Bahama Islands it picks the thai consulate in Ottawa Canada for you to apply for the eVisa thru

You have a chance they ask for additional / updated documents including full passport copy, and if you lie to them they will find out. Smartest decision is to stay in country where you applied waiting for your visa to be ready. That’s how it was before evisa, the fact you hold your passport makes you feel it’s ok, but it’s very gray area to go to Thailand while waiting for their decision.

ORIGINAL POSTER
Well, i told em what day im arriving so ive done nothing wrong nor lied. Just have to wait and see?
Tod *********
@Mick *******
telling them when you plan to come to thailand doesn't make them process the visa any faster

AND

more than a few people were denied when their "arrival date" past before the visa was issued.

OR

they were emailed and told to show new flights to thailand.

It'll either work or it won't and you'll know when you either get the approval email or the rejected email 🙂

Sincerely good luck with it
Mick ********
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Tod ********
can you show me that in writing somewhere?
Tod *********
@Mick *******
nope, other than the part I posted that says you have to be in the country when you apply

I'm just going by reports that more and more consulates are sending "request for additional documents" 3 or 4 days after you applied and asking for copies of all the passport pages (blank ones too) to see IF you bailed and went back to thailand.

Not saying you can't do it, just saying IF you do and get caught out you can get the visa rejected.
Grant *******
@Tod ********
nope! I applied then came in on the tourist visa then after a week my DTV got approved then I bounced in and out again to active it, easy!
Eddie *********
@Grant ******
thanks 🙏
Tod *********
@Grant ******
pretty foolish,

what IF after you flew to thailand the embassy had requested you send copies of EVERY page of your passport (including blank pages) like we are seeing more and more consulates request 4 or 5 days after the application was submitted

They do this to see IF you went back to thailand, and if you did they deny the visa

you were just plain lucky, everyone is not
Anita ********
@Grant ******
what if you had not gotten approved though?
James ********
@Tod ********
correct ✅
John *********
For the sake of argument….

What if someone lands in whatever country they wish to apply from.

Uploads photo of entry stamp to said country.

Comes to Thailand visa exempt while waiting for approval. Or even goes to another country.

After approval, next entry to Thailand they start using their DTV.
Will ************
@John ********
applicant can be asked to upload further documents to show they are still in that country such as copies of ALL pages of passport at any stage in the application.
Bob **********
@Will ***********
And that would be a reason to deny you
James *******
Your passport will burst into flames on arrival at immigration.
