Can my husband convert his tourist visa to a Non-O visa with a 1-year extension while in Thailand?

Hello everyone, seeking advice on marriage based non-o extension. I am Thai but husband holds US passport. We will travel to BKK in Nov and he will enter with a 60 day visitor visa. Question is while in Thailand, can he directly convert from tourist visa to non-o with a 1 year extension? Or, he has to convert to non-o which is valid for 90 days first and then 30 days before it expires file for 1 year extension?? Is there a quick pass to directly / right away get the 1 year extension? Thanks everyone so very much!!!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks advice on converting a tourist visa to a Non-O visa for their husband, who will enter Thailand with a 60-day visitor visa. They inquire if it's possible to directly obtain a 1-year extension or if the process requires first converting to a 90-day Non-O and then applying for the extension. Commenters suggest that obtaining a Non-O visa based on marriage before traveling could facilitate the process and enable the application for a 1-year extension directly in Thailand.

I was able to get Non O based on marriage 1 yr with multiple entries at my local embassy. Then you don’t have to worry about extension for a year. I’ve done it several times.

keep in mind a year-long, multi-entry Non-O visa based on marriage to a thai does not mean you get to stay IN thailand a year. You get 90 day entry stamps and then when it runs down you go to border stamp out of thailand, in and out of another country and back in to thailand to get a new 90 day stamp. You do that for the whole year the visa is valid for

yes I could do an extension if I chose too. I’m usually out of country when it expires and when I am in Thailand it’s usually only 2-4 weeks. From what I’ve been seeing it’s not enough time to get the extension completed.

You may consider getting Non-O based on being spouse to a Thai single entry before you fly, instead of Single Entry Tourist Visa. then you can apply for 1-year extension in Thailand when the 90-day’s stamp is up.

The US does not provide a income statement anymore since a few years.

Do you know if US embassy can issue a letter to prove monthly income of a bank in US?
Ellie *******
@Prussara **************
, No, US embassy wouldn't. Your husband has to put a deposit into a Thai bank account for either extension.

, then you have a couple of choices depending on the reason he wants to apply for. Requirements are different. Based on retirement or being married to a Thai. Two from the left on this extension comparison sheet. This sheet is about extensions, but Non-O single entry visas are available in the US for both reasons.
