Hi - I am arriving next week on a Non-Imm O (Thai Wife) visa which I have travelled on for the past few years. I normally granted a 90 day stay on arrival and leave before this expires, however I m asking if it is possible to extend this whilst in country for a further 60 days (giving me about 5 months in total). At the end of this particular 12 month visa it is my intention to change to a Marriage Visa. Any advice appreciated thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on whether it's possible to extend their Non-Imm O visa, which is based on being married to a Thai citizen, by an additional 60 days after the initial 90-day stay upon arrival. Several comments confirm that a 60-day extension is feasible, provided the necessary documents (including passport, marriage certificate, and ID) are submitted with the application at the local immigration office, along with a fee. The conversation also touches on the process of transitioning to a Marriage Visa later.

Steve *******
@Andrew ******
Yep, you could get a 1 year extention of stay based on marriage if your money was seasoned for 2 months before you applied.
Andrew *******
@Steve ******
great many thanks for info
Steve *******
Yes. You can apply for a 60 day extention on your initial 90 days. Your wife will need to go with you and you'll need copies of relevant docs, passport/ marriage cert/ wifes ID/housebook plus the fee of 1900bt. No bank book required

@Steve ******
that sounds my best option, if borders are open in January is a border run ok , as only 100km from border loas
Steve *******
@David ******
Yeah, If borders are open you can get non imm O based on marriage at Savanakhet or Vientiane in Laos

@Steve ******
is this the very last extension you can get 60 days .

As I am in a similar situation 90+60 as I need another 7 days after this .

Exit country or another extension ?
Steve *******
@David ******
You can apply again and you'll get a 7 day extention denied stamp, 1900bt fee. Your only other alternative is to apply for a 1 year extention of stay.

Yes you can apply for a 60 day extension for visiting Thai family. You can only do this once. To stay longer you would need to apply for a year extension of stay having met the financial requirements and producing copious copies of passport and other papers.
Stuart *********
Absolutely. Call their help line and theyā€™ll explain the different packages options available to you. You donā€™t need to leave the country to get it but it does take around 4+ weeks to process the background checks etc. As long as youā€™ve never been on overstay you should be good.

do you have to be married to apply for the years extension? I am on a Non O based on having a Thai son. I've just arrived in Thailand and now in quarantine but I'm trying to find the best way of staying long term. Any feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks.

@Thomas *******
it depends on whether the child is listed as your sole custody with a family court or local amphur. If so you need 400k and quite a few trees of paperwork to apply. Hereā€™s the list that the Phuket office needs.

If using another office check directly with them on their requirements as they may well be different.

If the child is not in your sole custody then the best you can do is a 60 day extension for visiting Thai family.

@Stuart ********
thank you very much for going out of your way to reply, much appreciated.
Stuart *********
@Thomas *******
if heā€™s not in your sole custody you can look at options like an Ed visa for learning Thai or if money isnā€™t an issue the Elite visa.
Thomas ********
@Stuart ********
thanks again for your help šŸ‘ I'll give them a ring

@Thomas *******
for people under 50 where money isnā€™t so much of an issue itā€™s a great way to stay long term. Many people bitch about the high price of the visa but when you break it down over 5 years (or longer) versus what youā€™d need to spend on flights in and out (if you could these days), hotel stays and the sheer hassle I think the numbers would be not so far apart.
Thomas ********
@Stuart ********
I've just paid nearly 150,000 to get back this time, I think its time to re think long term status in the country, thanks again for the info.
Stuart *********
@Thomas *******
ouch. Yeah Iā€™ve read about lots of peoples trials and tribulations trying to get in/back. Not easy at all. Glad to hear youā€™ve managed it.
Thomas ********
@Stuart ********
thanks mate its a good feeling being back even I am in quarantine!
Thomas ********
@Stuart ********
I agree mate, considering I won't be paying taxes either it seems reasonable
Thomas ********
@Stuart ********
with the Elite Visa could I get it sorted whilst in Thailand on my current Non O without leaving Thailand?
Michael ********
@Stuart ********
i am in same boat do you have a link for all paperwork. Probably same as what i had to do in Singapore to get non o.

Passport

Marriage cert

Wifes ID signed

Wife house regestration.

Copies of bank book.

Letter from wife.
Stuart *********
@Michael *******
sorry each office has slightly different requirements so best to check with the office where you apply for their handout. This link is for Phuket. It may not be the same for the office you use.
