Hello! I'm a Dual US citizen and Thai National, wife (US citizen) just got approved for her 90 day Visa Non-O through marriage, should we go to the govt office when we land in Bangkok to extend it for a year, or wait closer to the end of the 90 days (I originally thought we got a year when it was approved, but guess not)? Also, what exactly do we need to provide for info when we go?

Thanks ahead of time.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A dual US citizen and Thai national is inquiring about the timing and required documents for extending his wife's 90-day Non-O visa through marriage to a Thai citizen. It's advised to wait until there are 30 days or less remaining on her entry stamp to apply for a year extension at the local immigration office. Key requirements include having their marriage documentation ready. Additionally, clarifications on residency requirements during this visa application process were discussed.

Doubt that will actually work until you get the year extension sorted, and again you'll need exactly what the immigration office in the area you're applying for the extension at requires.

There are OVER 70 offices in the country.

One final time (as it seems we're just going round in circles ๐Ÿ˜• ) GET here and GO to the immigration office in your area and talk to them. They are the ones that will answer your specific questions about how that office does things.

Just be sure you have your marriage documents on your Thai name and Thai nationality.

Well we were married in the USA, so we don't have a thai marriage document. Or do we need to register somehow?

I thought the notary copies of our marriage certificate, and my statement saying that we were still married to get her visa in the first place was enough. But got it, we have a bunch more way to go. Thanks a million, I'll get a Kor Ror 22 as soon as we get here.

@David ******
how about before you come here you get the marriage certificate certifed by the thai embassy.

She's not gonna get an extension with a marriage certificate from the US until you get it certified by the thai embassy back there and then stamped by the MFA office once you're here

OR failing to get that done before you come here you'd have to go to the US embassy get a blank affidavit notartized that you were married in the US, then get that translated into thai, stamped by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs office here, then you two slog to the local Amphur (City Hall) here and register the marriage of a thai/foreigner abroad and get the Kor Ror 22 <- marriage of a thai abroad, document.

BUT that is WAY outside the scope of thai VISA advice.

she'll get stamped in for 90 days when she lands and then you both need to go to the thai immigration office where you live and get the hand out listing the requirements that a foreigner married to a thai needs as far as documentation.

She can apply for a year extension of stay when she has 30 days or less left on her 90 day entry stamp and it'll cost 1900baht, she'll get an under consideration stamp for a month and then go back to get the year extension inked in.

This covers MOST of the requirements to get a year extension based on marriage to a thai

I want to get on my knees and thank you, that was the most concise and helpful response I've gotten in months. followup though, I see it wants 6 family photos? Just 6 random photos of me and the wife, just like off of facebook?

@David ******
about the photos: might be different from immigration to immigration, but our immigration wanted specific pictures, like : sitting together on our bed, sitting together in the living room, standing together in front of the house (the other three I did forget ๐Ÿ˜ฌ)

@David ******
usually they want the 2 of you together, inside and outside of your house, maybe with some furniture. And with the address sign. With anyone else that lives thereโ€ฆ

@David ******
GO to your immigration office and get the hand out from that office and SEE exactly what they need. That sheet is a general idea and you should NOT think it's gonna work at your office without going there long before you need the extension and get their list and handout

@David ******
Ideally you need pictures of you and your wife in front of your house, showing the house number, and you and your wife in your bedroom. Once you have submitted your application they may send someone to your house to check whether you live there.

@David ******
They want photos of you at your residence. Each immigration office can be differednt but for Samat Prakan they want: picture outside of house/building clearly showing house number, second picture in front of house showing whole house, pictures at various locations inside of the house - bedroom, living room, kitchen.

New question, so we are just bouncing around the country for a year until we find a permanent place to purchase/rent. Will the residence we are at for 3 months be ok? Or do I have to purchase a home, or have a 1 year lease?
Tod *********
@David ******
you seem to be missing the part where I say once you're here GO to the immigration office where you live/stay and TALK TO THEM.

There is no short cut to that, there is no one size fits all answers. GO and talk to them with your wife and your documents once you're here.
