Can my husband apply for a 60-day extension on his non-immigrant 'O' visa before applying for a one-year marriage visa in Thailand?

Advice appreciated. I am Thai. My husband is currently on a non-immigrant 'O' visa which expires 19th Feb. We were planning to get the 60-day extension but wanted to ask if others know whether this is still possible? We have been told it could be better to apply for the covid extension OR apply now for the year-long marriage visa. If we get the 60-day family/marriage visa extension, can we still apply for the 1-year marriage visa during that time or can we only extend the 'O' visa once? The other question is that we are married in the UK with a UK marriage certificate - will a notarised Thai translation of the UK marriage certificate be sufficient for the 60-day extension as well as for the application for the 1-year marriage visa? Advice greatly appreciated. (We are in Phuket so would be doing all this at the Phuket Immigration Office)

TLDR : Answer Summary
A Thai individual inquires about visa options for her husband, who currently holds a non-immigrant 'O' visa. Their primary questions include the possibility of extending this visa for 60 days, the feasibility of applying for a one-year marriage visa during that time, and whether a notarised Thai translation of their UK marriage certificate will suffice for these applications. Feedback indicates that time is of the essence, suggesting immediate action is required for visa extensions, alongside the importance of legalising the UK marriage certificate in the UK.

You will NOT get the year extension (and might not get the 60 day visit thai family extension) without getting that UK marriage certificate legalized back IN the UK. There is no "notarize it here" option.

This is how you get the marriage certificate legalized.

thanks all - do you know if getting the covid extension cancels the “O” visa out and means that we cannot apply for the 1 year marriage visa?

you're not in the country on a Non-O VISA. You're here on the 90 day stamp FROM it. AND no getting a covid extension does not cancel it out, you can apply for the year extension based on marriage after this covid extension without any problem. You didn't leave the country so what ever extension you're getting is still thai'd :O errr tied :P back to the original 90 day entry stamp from the Non-O visa

post on a Phuket f/b group and ask. They'll have the answer.

Remember you have until Friday to apply for this extension AND there's a good chance you'll lose the days you have on your current stamp when you apply for it.

the only person that knows IF they'll take the UK marriage certificate without the legalization for the 60 day visit family extension would be the immigration office where you live.

You could get the 60 day covid extension (before they stop issuing them on Friday) BUT it will start the day you apply and you'll lose the days you have left on your current stamp.

Timing is critical...

Go to Phuket Immigration and apply for the COVID 60 day extension by this Friday January 29th.

That gives you time to seek the one year extension of stay based on Married to Thai.

The 400,000 Thai baht bank account needs to be in place two months before that application.

If Thai immigration will accept your marriage certificate....ask them.

And if they do...you will have the option to obtain a 60 day family visit extension following the COVID extension .
