Can I convert my tourist visa to a NON-O visa based on marriage after extending the tourist visa?

Two questions. I am planning to change my single entry tourist visa to the 90 days NON-O visa based on marriage in JAN. Do I have to do that within the 2nd month of those 60 days, or can I extend the tourist visa first and change it around the 65th-70th day?

Second..after I got that non-o for 90 days. Can this be extended one more time for 60 days based on marriage or i “lost” the one-time extension by doing it with the tourist visa? Not looking for the yearly extension with 400k THB on the bank account for now, thank you

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is considering changing their single entry tourist visa to a 90-day NON-O visa based on marriage in January. They inquire if the conversion should occur within the second month of their 60 days or if they can extend the tourist visa first and convert later. Additionally, they want to know if the NON-O visa can be extended for another 60 days based on marriage, or if that option is forfeited by extending the tourist visa first. Comments clarify that after entering Thailand on a tourist visa (SETV) and receiving a 30-day extension, the user can later apply for a NON-O visa based on marriage, but they should be aware of the financial requirements for the initial NON-O visa.

So, When you enter Thailand on SETV, you will be stamped for 60days, and eligible +30days tourist extension, going to 90days total. Get marriage during this 90days period, get it official, then you become to be eligible for a 60days extension based on visiting Thai family and there is no requirement for you to have funds for this extension. You may be able to stay up to 150days total, prepare and sort everything during this, then go back to your country to get your new visa.

'Each' standard short-term extension is limited to once per entry, not based on 'combination'. As long as you meet the requirement, you can apply once for each, which means both.

so in that case the just one extension per stay doesn’t count? I can have 30 days AND 60 days based on marriage. thx as I thought it’s limited to either 30 days tourist extension OR 60 days based on marriage

You can apply for a 30days tourism extension when your current stamp is 30days or fewer remains. Then you can apply for a 60days visiting family extension as well once you get into tourism extension also when you have 30days or less. Then when you still have 15days or more remaining with your latest stamp, you can apply for in-country Non-O based on Marriage to a Thai national.

BUT, you need 400K in your account for initial Non-O, it is the requirement not only for a 1-year extension.

* Conditions on the number of days varies immigration offices.

can you confirm that 100%? I always thought you do NOT need the 400k for the 90days NON O, just need it 60 days before you apply for that 1 year extension (which I won’t apply for)Just to clarify. Not married yet, that’s why I said tourism visa and change it to NON O 90 days after I got the marriage documents.

Ellie is 100% correct you need to show the 400K baht in a thai bank account in your name only when you apply for the in country 90 day Non-O based on marriage.

About the only extension you could apply for without proof of funds based on marriage would be the 60 day visit thai family extension (and you can do that ONCE per entry).

thx. So I’ll go that way: Tourist visa (marry within those 60 days) - 60 days extension based on marriage- fly back to my home country and apply for a 1 year multiple entry Non o marriage which they offer for around 7k THB. As I fly out of Thailand anyway every 8-12 weeks, that’s the best solution for me for now

That is definitely the best course of action for you especially given the amount you travel in/out of thailand. That year long mult-entry Non-O based on marriage will give you unlimited entries during the validity of the visa (a year from the date it's issued) AND each entry will get you stamped in for 90 days.

you are confusing some conditions. You don't need to SEASON your fund for a couple of months for an in-country Non-O, you NEED your fund in your Thai bank account unless you can get the affidavit letter from your embassy.

This is the requirements list for an in-country Non-O visa (90days) being married to a Thai national in Bangkok for example.
