Hi, need advice from experts please?

I am Thai. My husband, 76 year old, US citizen will apply for a Non O spouse 90 days to visit Thailand in March,2024. We will stay in Thailand for 31 days.

We planned to move back and stay in Thailand permanently in August,2024.

Question:

Can my husband do a 1 year extension on Non O spouse visa while he is in Thailand on March visit? That way he can use the visa for the August trip?

Appreciate your advice in advance.Thank you!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A Thai citizen inquired whether her husband, a 76-year-old US citizen, could apply for a 1-year extension on a Non-O spouse visa during a short 31-day visit to Thailand in March. Community responses indicated that he would not be eligible for the extension during this trip due to regulations that require a minimum stay. Suggestions included applying for a tourist visa for the March visit and planning to apply for the Non-O spouse visa or a retirement visa before their permanent move in August 2024.

Thank you: Can I use notarized marriage license issued by US courthouse to apply for the Non O marriage visa?

I would like to suggest if both of you have the marriage certificate can try to apply for Non-O visa at the Embassy of Thailand in US.

There have some documents need to prepare for the application.

I’m not sure Embassy Thailand in US will be approve 90 days or 1 year.

After be in Thaialnd can apply for extend VISA. For between the day before apply extend VISA, try to complete your marriage certificate in Thailand, apply bank account for your husband.

Or else just apply retired VISA.

The VISA requirement is different of Spouse VISA vs Retired VISA

Hope it could help

He might struggle with health cover.

- medical insurance required for Non O-A but not for Non O retirement

My point was NOT about having to have health insurance, my point was that everyone should have health insurance, and at his age that might be a problem. Either that or a lot in the bank.

@Tulip *******
that would be a problem for a retirement visa, but it's not required for a marriage visa.

@Kelly *******
you DO NOT need insurance for a non o of the 1 year extension

He might be better off getting a Non O ‘for Retirement’.

We were thinking that too.It's seems the extension visa for a Thai spousal is so complicated with having to submit pictures us living in the house and stuffs.Oue marriage is legit, just doesn't like to do complicated works .

my wife (Thai) does my marriage visa for me. The initial application process is somewhat daunting. There's a lot to do. It gets easier after the first time. In my case, I went to the Thai embassy in Chicago. They gave me a 6 month, multiple entry tourist visa for $200.00. Not sure what's available nowadays. A retirement visa can be easier to do, but requires more money in a Thai bank account plus health insurance. At his age, insurance might be very expensive or difficult to get. I'm not sure about that since it's not a requirement for marriage visa.

Kelly Bethel A Non O retirement visa does NOT require health insurance only the Non O-A requires it

Thank you. Are you suggesting to come in with No O spouse in March. Open account in Thailand and deposit 800,000 THB

Then in August apply for the Non O retirement visa?
David *******
@Patty ******
Either get the Non O for retirement from the Embassy or get a Tourist Visa and convert to Non O in Thailand. As long as he can put 800k in a Thai bank
Brandon ************
No he cannot. He won't even be able to apply until he has used up 2 months of the stay and has 30 days left.

And even then once he applied he would get a 1 month under consideration stamp to return to the office in 1 month to get the extension. It just won't be possible if only staying in Thailand for 31 days.

You're probably better off applying for a tourist visa for this first trip and then apply for the Non-O before you travel in August.

Appreciate so much for your reply.If he were to come in on a tourist visa, would he have problems opening the bank account in Thailand?
Brandon ************
@Patty ******
probably. He can get a non-O visa for both trips if you want to open the bank account first. There shouldn't be any issues with that.
