Evening everybody.

Firstly, Thank You for the ad.

I was advised to ask this forum a visa question, but I believe the gentlemen from the Korat/Expats groups were helpful;

I'm a UK national in between jobs. Came into BKK on a 30day standard visa which runs out on 28-Nov.

I'm married to a Thai, have enough money in my account and my name is on property deeds.

My initial question was "could I get an 'O' 1 year married to a Thai visa" internally to extend my current 30day visa, or do I need to go to Vientiane, get a 90day 'O' visa and then apply for the 1 year extension from inside the Kingdom?

My secondary question was that if I had to use the 90day 'O' visa option would there be an issue obtaining it, if I had another 30day visa extension meaning I would go to Laos mid December instead of next week?

Thank you in advance ๐Ÿ˜€

TLDR : Answer Summary
A UK national is seeking advice on whether they can convert their 30-day visa into a 1-year Non-O visa based on being married to a Thai citizen while staying in Thailand. The individual has received various suggestions, including the possibility of converting their visa at a local immigration office if they have enough days left on their current stamp, or traveling to a nearby country to obtain the visa.

Why not head on over to the Korat Immigration office with your thai wife and ASK them if they can do the in country conversion from a 30 day visa exempt entry or an extension from it to a 90 day Non-O visa based on marriage inside the country.

Most offices that CAN do it require you to have so many days left on your current stamp (between 21 and 15 remaining). IF you burned your stamps down already you might be able to get a 60 day "visit family" extension at the immigration office to buy you the time to do the in country conversion.

OR

As people mentioned GO to a thai consulate in another country and BUY a 90 day single entry Non-O then when that 90 days is running out apply at the immigration office for the yearly extension.

if you still live in Chang Mai and you have more than 21 days left on your stay, you can convert your 30 day Visa Exempt Entry into the 90 day Non Immigrant O visa based on marriage at your local Immigration Office, 60 days later you can apply at the same location for the 1 year Extension of Stay based on married with a Thai National

Can the Korat immigration office do the conversion?
