Hi TV ppl... Heading to Thailand and I'll enter with a Non-O SE based on marriage. I was hoping to stay in the Kingdom for 6-7 months, and also wanted to register our marriage in Thailand so that my wife can get a new passport w/ her now legal US name (no more marriage certs!). And...so that I could apply for the 1-yr marriage visa.
...but that was when I thought we might stay for a year or more. Now I'm wondering if I should make 2 runs...So I'd come in with the Non-O, run for another Non-O, and then one more time for a stamp. That is not so appealing, and I dont know if that's the best way to achieve 7 months.
A few questions...
1. Should I just go for the 1-yr marriage based ME even if I won't need it for the full time?
2. I read that the 1-yr ME requires 90 day runs...is that true or is it just 90-day reporting?
3. When re-entering, does that reset the 90 days?
4. Is there a better way to do all this?
5. Is it possible to get the 1-yr ME, use it, and renew from the US each year? We're not planning on living in Thailand, but I like to spend as much time there as possible...so if there's a way to keep that 1-yr visa alive it would seem worthwhile for as long as we are having extended stays over there. Thoughts?
Thank you so much in advance!
TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about obtaining a Non-O visa based on marriage to stay in Thailand for 6-7 months and the process of registering their marriage in Thailand. They are considering the necessity of a one-year marriage visa, the requirements for 90-day reporting, and the options for renewals while residing outside Thailand. Comments clarify the distinction between a multi-entry Non-O visa, which requires re-entry every 90 days, and a one-year extension of stay that has different conditions for reporting.
