If I’m in Thailand with the Retirement-O and I want to live outside Thailand for extended periods, but want to maintain my Extension to Stay, can I do all the official reporting on line? Any issues that might prevent me from doing that?

TLDR : Answer Summary
If you hold a Retirement-O visa in Thailand and plan to live outside the country for extended periods, you can avoid the 90-day reporting requirement by exiting Thailand. However, your annual extension for stay must be done while you are in Thailand; failure to do so might void your visa. It's crucial to return to Thailand before your extension expires, ideally a day before, although some recommend returning a month in advance. Ensure you have a re-entry permit before leaving Thailand.

You just need a multi entry visa. Costs more but then you are allowed to come and go.

You dont need to report if you're not in the country, you just need a re-entry permit when you leave.

as long as u enter with a valid visa/ re entry permit and give urself time to go to immigration BEFORE ur extension expires ur ok>

so it could be one day if u come back Monday an go to immigration tuesday

BUT if ur extension expires on a Saturday, u better be back Thursday at latest

Question # 1 - What is there to report if you live outside of Thailand ?

You don't report at all when you leave Thailand .

Make sure you have your multiple entry .

Need to be back in Thailand 1 month before the expiration date on your retirement visa .

I opted out on renewing my retirement visa

why you havs to return one month before visa expires? any rule or law?

@Ken *****
just what my visa agent told me & they're in Bangkok . I live in Koh Tao but is ok I won't be renewing it . I left already on a multiple entry to Tahiti & probably heading back to Hawaii and stay there till im retired from Hawaii .

There is no requirement to come back one month before expiry.

that's what my visa agent told me .

what do I know? I've only been here for 26 years. Show me where it says that in immigration law.

The one month before expiry contradicts the above commenter Richard who said 1 day. Who is right? Thanks.

If your not in Thailand there’s nothing to report just make sure you have a re entry permit and return before the end date of your extension

as long as you show up in Thailand the day before ur extension expires an renew it >( so leave ur 800,000 in the bank year long)

you can stay out of Thailand all year, NOTHING to bother with online

NO 90 day reports, Only make sure u have ur re enter permit for ur return

1st extension from a non o visa?

usually within the last 30 days when ur visa is about to expire>

next extensions are usually done when there is 30 days left (some immigrations will allow 45 ) on the extension>

an option, since ur married is come in on a 30 day visa exempt and than apply for a 60 days living with ur thai wife extension>

Will 90 days be good for you?

@Ric****
if I’m just starting on the retirement visa, what is the time frame for the first extension? If I have the 800k in the bank two months prior to entering Thailand, and if I apply for the retirement visa asap after I arrive - Can I get to that point for the first extension within 8 months if I started from the beginning when I arrived? Or would this not be possible?

One day before expiry? Is that correct? Someone else says one month. Cheers.

@John ********
yes better

@John ********
you can apply for an extension up to your last day, not recommended though in case some document is not acceptable e.g. the bank letter or statement and it needs to be resubmitted

@Graham *****
Thank you Graham. I have had both a retirement and marriage visa but both have expired in their own time as I work on vessels around the world and have been offshore at the time. My missus sorts all that out for me and we have never had any problem in the past and have had

0 in the bank continuously for several years. Will be applying again next time back in Thailand. No doubt I'll get called for work again before the process is finished. That's life. Cheers.

You're annual extension of stay needs to be done whilst you are in Thailand. Letting it lapse whilst outside voids your visa and you start all over again
Darren *******
What official reporting exactly? If 90 days then it's per Jay Tolputt's response.
เจสัน ******
As soon as you leave Thailand you are stamped out thereby stopping the 90 day reporting requirement.

When you return, your reentry permit starts the 90 day clock again.
