What are the differences between the NON-O and NON-OA visas when it comes to extensions and 90-day reporting in Thailand?

Following my last week enquiry, I'm a bit lost with the NON-O visa (the one for more than 50 yers old, retirement).

The question is : when you get the 1 year extension, do you act exactly as with a NON-OA visa ? Meaning that you just do your 90 days reports by Internet or other ways (post mail or in person), but don't have to go outside the country ?

I ask because I saw in some posts that people got

NON-O visa for a year (for reason I don't know) but have to go outside Thailand every three months. I also had an old English friend in Chiang Mai who had a NON-O usued in England (not for retiment because had not the money in Thailand for) and he also had to go to MaeSai every 90 days.

Thanks for any clear answer. Have a nice week-end.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion clarifies that while both the NON-O and NON-OA visas have similar requirements for retirement in Thailand, they differ in terms of extensions and reporting. Specifically, when obtaining a 1-year extension on a NON-O visa, individuals are not required to leave the country every 90 days, unlike some holders of a NON-O visa who may need to exit the country to renew their entry stamp. Instead, NON-O visa holders can complete 90-day reports through the internet or in-person without leaving Thailand.

So, if I get in Thailand a NON-O for 50 years old/retirement (with all the money requirement) then, during the firts 90 days, a 1 year extension… that will be excatly the same as the NON-OA. I can stay at home and report on the web every 90 days. That's fine for me.

I understand
@Tod ********
but if I have exactly the same money requirements as OA, can have 1 year extensions as long as I want, and just do report evry 90 days as I do now with OA, in a practical way, nothing change really in my life…

It will be a yearly extension, and you will do 90 day reporting and don't have to leave every 90 days.

One final time it will NOT be exactly the same as a Non-O-A visa.

I've got a non-O visa, Orignally I had a O-A visa I think, it was issued in the UK, but I forgot to get a reentry permit one time and it lapsed. When I returned here I had to go through some hoops I then got a tourist visa I think and after? 80 days? applied for a non -O here in Thailand. I am still on that and get an 'extension for retirement' every year and no leaving the country. I understand that you must first let the O-A visa lapse then apply here in Thailand, first for a ? 30 day visa? visa exempt, not sure, and then for the non-O, with of course, the necessary funds available.

The other thing you're confused about is a year-long, multi-entry Non-O visa <- note there is no A after the O.

Most people get these based on marriage to a thai from one of the thai consulates that do not require proof of funds.

That visa is valid for a year from the date it's issued (just like the O-A is) BUT on an Non-O visa you only get stamped in for 90 days. Then you go to the border, stamp out of thailand, stamp in and out of another country and stamp back in to thailand to get a NEW 90 day entry stamp. You do that for the whole year the visa is valid for.

This is the type of visa your friend in Chiang Mai had where he had to border bounce every 90 days.

First you need to understand that when you get a yearly extension inside thailand it is NOT a visa at all, it is exactly what it says, an EXTENSION OF STAY.

Whether you got it from an original Non-O-A visa <- that you got from the thai consulate in your country OR from a Non-O visa <- that you got from a thai consulate or the immigration office doesn't matter,

What DOES matter (at least now) is; IF you are on yearly extensions of stays from an original Non-O-A visa you DO need to have health insurance from one of the 12 thai providers to get a new yearly extension .

okay, you're getting confused by a couple things
