A friend just told me that if you're on a Non O-A retirement extension that you don't have to leave the country or do 90 day reporting, is this correct? Thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The Non O-A visa requires the holder to either report to immigration every 90 days or exit and re-enter Thailand within the same timeframe to maintain their status. In the first year, there is some flexibility where individuals may choose to exit and re-enter instead of reporting. However, in the second year, 90-day reporting is mandated, and failure to comply can lead to fines. Therefore, it is incorrect to believe that holders of the Non O-A visa do not need to report at all.

90 day report is short for: Notification of staying in the Kingdom over 90 days. Everybody who stays longer than 90 days inside the Kingdom has to report 15 days before till 7 days later than day number 90 of his stay inside the Kingdom. It is about staying longer than 90 days inside the country, there is no mention of what kind of Visa or Extension of Stay is being used.

For the O visa and the O-A Visa the O stands for Other... There are several Visa types in Other. ED visa is for Education. B Visa is for Business.

why do they even heve to use such random lettters to decribe a visa status ????

Under an O-A visa, the maximum stay will not exceed 24 months total. And in the 2nd. year of the O-A visa the Multi-Entry aspect of this visa is dropped - then it requires reporting every 90 days and buying a Reentry Permit if the visa holder wants to leave and come back.

Thanks.

Jim the M in the O-A visa stands for Multi Entry. As far as I know the O-A is the only visa type with dual properties. In the first year a person on an O-A visa could choose to just do Exits and Reentries every 90 days instead of Reporting to immigration. Or choose to do 90 day Reports. But must do one or the other. I am not sure what happens when the actions are mixed. The Non Imm O and Non Imm B Multi-Entry Visas only have one choice - Exit and Reenter every 90 days. One Year Extensions of Stay (extended from Non Immigrant Visas) make 90 day Reports.

ah ok I see, makes sense, 2nd year get a multi re entry. I will decide whether to do this but I think I am leaning towards getting married there using exepmtion, then on next trip go to savannakhet for spouse visa, just not enough time do do it all in one trip

So are you saying in the first year no 90 day reporting is required?
David *******
I am beginning to think may be worth geting O A multi entry from Uk before i get married and live there as I will be leaving often working in other countries. Am I correct in saying every time I return I get another year? That will save some hassle :-)

Steve Greir. Thanks. He says he doesn't have too.As I'm aware every Alien staying longer than 90 days must report.
Steve *******
That's right. Even with the
****
year Elite visa you have to report every 90 days.
Steve *******
@J**
with the non imm oa visa you have to do one or the other. Either report every 90 days or leave the country within 90 days

Neo LothongKum. Never heard of 3×4 visas. What are they?
Steve *******
Neo LothongKum. With a multiple non imm o you can do it as many times as you want within the validity of the visa.

@Lloyd *******
. Many thanks. Just as I thought but he said definitely he doesn't have to do 90 day reporting.

Everyone who is in country for 90 days or more has to, your friend may be fined 2000 Baht if he is late reporting.

Times are changing but I know people on Non O-A who never reported in the first year but rather exited and reentered Thailand every 90 days. However, I suspect it is frowned upon these days.
Lloyd ********
No, that is totally legit too

Non - OA is a multi - entry visa that you get in you home country, each entry is valid for one year, BUT if you stay in country for 90 days or over you must do a 90 day report.

I take it one doesn't need a re-entry permit then?

I have a one year extension but on an NON O. He said on his O-A he doesn't have to report. One type must be different from the other?
