Good morning, I am planning to apply for retirement O visa.I understand the process but would like to know once I apply and get the 3 months extension if I need to stay in the country for those 3 months before applying for the one year extension.

Or if I leave the country would I need to reapply for those 3 months again?

Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for the retirement O visa in Thailand, you can leave the country after receiving your initial 90-day Non-O visa, provided you purchase a re-entry permit. This permit allows you to re-enter Thailand during the validity of your 90-day stamp, which is crucial for ensuring you can apply for the subsequent one-year extension. You need to be in the country during the application review period of 2-3 weeks, and it is advised not to leave during this time.

Excellent thank you Tod. For the re entry visa do you get it at immigration or at airport when you leave the country?

you can do it either way. What I'd say is when you go back to get the Non-O and 90 day stamp inked in (after the review period) you just get a single re-entry permit for 1000baht right then. I mean you have to go to the immigration office anyway and that way you have it

Here's how that works in country

You apply for the 90 day Non-O visa for 2000baht at the immigration office

It will go under review for between 2 and 3 weeks (depending on the office). You need to have the time on your entry stamp to be here during that period and during this time you can't leave the country

Then you go back on the date they put on your receipt when you applied (in bangkok 2 weeks later), you get the Non-O visa and a new 90 day stamp inked in

At this point IF you need to leave the country you buy a re-entry permit. It will ONLY be good for the 90 day stamp you have so you need to come back before that date so you can apply for the year extension (which you can do when you have 30 days or less left on your 90 day stamp and your funds have been in the bank for 2 months)

So the answer is yes, AFTER you get the 90 day Non-O visa you can exit/re-enter during those 90 days IF you buy a re-entry permit
