Anyone has the retirement visa? Is it difficult to leave Thailand and travel abroad with the 90-day reporting rule? Are you pretty much tied down to be in Thailand?

TLDR : Answer Summary
Traveling abroad on a retirement visa in Thailand is manageable with the right knowledge. You must obtain a re-entry permit before leaving Thailand; otherwise, your visa could be canceled. When you re-enter Thailand, the 90-day reporting period resets. If you are outside Thailand during your reporting period, you are not required to report. It's recommended to apply for a re-entry permit at immigration ahead of your trip for peace of mind, although you can also get it at the airport.

wouldn’t they say, you hardly spend time in Thailand and then won’t renew the retirement visa? Is what I am afraid of.

The 90 day reporting gets "reset" when you leave Thailand. It starts countiing from 1 again once you enter Thailand again.

When you leave Thailand, you NEED a re-entry permit, otherwise your visa gets cancelled.

You can choose between a single entry or a multiple entry. The multiple entry gives you unlimited re-entries for the whole duration of your yearly extension.

You can apply for for re-entry before at immigration (i do it on the same day when I go to apply my yearly extension to save a trip). At the moment you apply you need to give some information about your trip out of Thai, but that's not important if youndon't know the exadt dates etc... just make a guess.

Your can also apply for re-entry at the airport just before you leave Thailand. People do it without problems, but I still prefer applying in advance at immigration for peace of mind.

you don't really need to enter your proposed trip information, they don't really care. Can leave it blank.

You need a multiple reentry permit before you leave the country, and the 90 days begins again every time you re-enter

how much does the re-entry visa cost?
Dave ********
Single re-entry cost is 1,000 baht

Ginna Ginna. It's not a re-entry visa, it's a permit which aligns with whatever extension you are on

@Ginna ******
3800bt for multiple reentry (if you intend to travel more than once).

Single reentry is 1900 bt, I believe

If you're not in Thailand then you don't need to do report that you've been in Thailand for 90 days because you're not there.

oh, I thought the point of the reporting is to keep tab on you in Thailand

@Ginna ******
and although frequently referred to as a visa it is not a visa, it is an extension of permission to stay.

90 day reporting has NOTHING to do with the visa/extension you're on.

IF you're in the country when it's time for you to do a 90 day report you do one if you're not in the country you don't and when you come back the 90 day starts counting down again and your next 90 day report is due 89 days from the date you stamp IN to thailand.

Ginna Ginna. If visa or extension is valid it won't be cancelled. With an extension you need to get a reentry permit before leaving Thailand
