Hello, hypothetical question here.

I am in Thailand with a visa extension based on marriage. I am also working, and using my salary to cover the financial requirements of the visa extension each year.

If I were to leave the country and start working in another country, but come back to Thailand regularly for holidays, would I be able to keep extending my marriage visa every year using my foreign income to cover the financial requirements? Or is there some requirement that you stay in the country for a certain amount of time each year?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses whether one can extend a marriage visa in Thailand while living and working abroad, emphasizing the need for financial proof for the extension. It highlights that usually, income must be earned in Thailand, with some reports stating that foreign income might not be accepted for extension purposes. However, there are no specific residency requirements yearly, allowing the individual to leave as long as they apply for the extension before it expires.

I think you will NOT be able to switch from earned income inside the country to foreign income from abroad as proof of funds for the marriage extension without you transferring a minimum of 40K baht a month each month every month into a thai bank account in your name only for the previous 12 months before you apply for the next yearly extension.

ALSO we are getting sporadic reports that offices are denying extensions based on marriage when using income from abroad via transfers into your thai bank account..

I was at Chaengwattana when someone was denied the extension even though they had proof of transferring 40K baht a month into their account for the past year.

They were told they couldn't use foreign income (only legal income from working in thailand).

Luckily, they were given a 60 day visit thai family extension and got the 400K baht banked so they can get the year once it seasons for 2 months

Oh and there's no amount of time you have to be IN the country, you can get your year extension, a re-entry permit and then leave the whole year if you want to as long as you get back before your extension expires to apply for another one you're fine

i sure would go to your immigration office with your thai wife WELL BEFORE you're thinking to switch off the earned income inside thailand to the earned income from abroad and SEE what they will say about it. I mean worst they can say is no, and then you figure out how to bank the 400k in funds to get the extension that way
