40,000 THB income for marriage visa extension

I work online and get paid in USD to an American bank. I can transfer 40,000 THB to my Thai bank account each month. Will I qualify for marriage visa extension using this method?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The main question is whether a Canadian can qualify for a marriage visa extension in Thailand by showing proof of a monthly income of 40,000 THB transferred from an American bank account. The consensus among commenters is that Canadians cannot use monthly bank transfers as proof of income. Instead, they must obtain an affidavit of income from their embassy to successfully meet the extension requirements. There are concerns about potential loopholes in the system, and there are warnings about the implications of attempting to bypass the official requirements.

Sure seems to me like this topic is fixing to come off the proverbial rails :O I believe the O/P (

) has the information they are seeking.

Being Canadian they CANNOT use monthly transfers into the country to meet the proof of funds for a marriage extension. They use the embassy letter OR they bank the money.

Sorry if a dumb question, but ok 40,000k must come in but what's to stop you from transferring back out (or withdrawing cash, redeposit to different account and then transferring back)?

If people get caught doing that they will tighten the rules to the detriment of all of us.

OP should not post that he is working online in Thailand.

I know a person who lived in Cambodia for years and years, he moved here, every month he transfers in XXX baht into his thai bank account, he pulls it out in cash over a few weeks, he transfers it back to his bank in Cambodia and then does it again. He said even with the currency exchange and the transfer rates he is ahead of the game. Personally I think it's WAY too much to do just to "beat the system at it's own game" but he's coming up on his third year extension doing that so it can work.

Piet de Keizer ok, I'm not saying I'm going to do it, I'm just surprised that you could easily get around this requirement. And it's not really a question of honesty if you are being truthful
Craig *******
Piet de Keizer thanks, so what would stop you from just recirculating the same 40k each month?

Okay, let's put this one to bed.

IF your embassy here still issues the affidavit of income from abroad letter (unlike the UK, US, and Australian embassies that stopped doing it) you MUST use that letter to show proof of income and you CANNOT use monthly transfers to show it.

That's how the rule is written (or at least interpreted) I had a canadian friend who had over 12 months of monthly transfers into a thai bank account in his name only each month every month for the required minimum amount needed. He was denied the extension even though he had the bank letter, proof the transfers were from abroad, etc. They told him go get the embassy letter and come back. He did and they gave him the extension no question asked

same thing for an extension based on retirement I guess?

if you're canadian and wanting to use monthly income you get the notary letter from the consulate, OR you can use the 800K baht banked money if you want to

I was thinking about using the monthly income solution for next year because blocking that much money is financially idiotic but I am French and my consulate still gives letters afaik, so... not sure what to do now đŸ˜“

check with your consulate to see if they do issue the letter, and if they do you have to use it from them for monthly income method. Remember though switching from banked money to monthly income means you need to meet the requirements for banked money for the whole year; <- meaning you keep the 800K baht in your account for 3 months after your extension is granted and then not let the balance go below 400K baht the rest of the year until you apply for your next extension using the embassy letter.

Thanks. Any idea what the requirements are for the affidavit? Did he have to provide tax records?

Before comments are closed, after you enter Thailand, contact your embassy, the Canadian Embassy, about getting a letter saying that you make 40K THB a month. Use that letter as proof of income :)

I'm closing comments to prevent this post from going out of control.

Can Canadians get the affidavit of income letters from their Embassy ??
Lumpy *********
@James *******
sorry hit the wrong emoji
James ********
If he can ...then does not need the proof of 40k month transferred into Thai bank account.
Benjamin ******
@James *******
I believe they can. If they do, then I don't think he can use the 40K THB method.
