Can I enter Thailand on a one-way ticket with a 60-day tourist visa and get a retirement visa?

I just did that on Friday no problems at all stamped until December 11, I will do an extension on or about the 9 December the immigration lady asked if I was doing an extension I said yes she said ok I’m from Australia
