TLDR : Answer Summary
You can enter Thailand on a one-way ticket with a 60-day tourist visa, but be aware that it may raise concerns with immigration or your airline, as proof of onward travel is generally expected. It might be advisable to confirm with the airline before your flight. Regarding your retirement visa, it's possible to apply during your stay, as long as you meet the financial requirements. However, experts recommend considering a Non-O visa based on retirement for a more straightforward application process.
NON-O RETIREMENT VISA RESOURCES / SERVICES
  • Go to the Retirement Visa Section for information on requirements, including age restrictions, financial requirements, and necessary documentation.
  • For immediate assistance, contact Thai Visa Centre directly via LINE at @ThaiVisaCentre or Email them.

Greetings,

It’s possible to enter Thailand on a one-way ticket with a 60-day tourist visa, but it may raise concerns with the airline or immigration upon arrival, as they often expect proof of onward travel. You may want to check with the airline beforehand. As for your retirement visa, it’s feasible to sort it out while you’re in Thailand, provided you meet the financial and other requirements.

Safe travels and best of luck with your visa!

If you travel on 60 days visa exemption you’ll formally need an onward ticket within 60 days.

If you plan to apply for a retirement visa anyway, it’s more convenient to apply for a 90 days Non O visa based on retirement at the embassy at home before you leave and do the one year extension of stay in Thailand.

Then you can apply with income/funds in your bank at home. There’s no onward ticket requirement and you can easily open a bank account needed for your extension of stay.

Why apply for at 60 day touristvisa when you can go 60 days visa excempt.

One way tickets are more expensive, especialy because at least the return part will be short time before the departure.

You may need a ticket out of Thailand, within the 60 day visa excempt period.

It may be difficult to get a bankaccount on a tourist visa / visa excempt, to deposit the required amount for retirement.
