Should I worry about overstaying my visa if I leave Thailand on the same day it is cancelled?

I’ve overstayed by a day a couple of times, no problems just a warning and a comment in your passport. They can fine you bht 500 per day but not likely to do so for 1 day.

Can you take a day trip from Krabi to Phi Phi Island?

Don’t know about that, but there used to be a ticket on the ferry that allowed you to travel to Phuket, Pi Pi, Koh Lanta and back to Au Nang. You could get on and off and stay a few days at each destination.
