Hi everyone 👋

I’m Thai and based in Thailand.

I joined this group because I often see foreigners asking about daily life, costs, and how things work locally.

I’m happy to share local insights or help explain things from a Thai perspective if it’s useful — especially to avoid common misunderstandings.

Looking forward to learning from this group as well.

😊🇹🇭

Hi All. I’m hoping to retire early to Thailand. I’ve got a lot of info from other members posts, but just recently I read a comment from someone comparing the cost of a retirement visa for Thailand with Vietnam. He stated 65k for Thailand and $25 for Vietnam. Could someone please give me an idea of the yearly costs for retirement visas, so I can factor this into my monthly outgoings before I make a decision on how early I can retire.

TIA Steve 👍

This isn’t visa related but I wanted some opinions on being scammed on electric bills.. I have moved into a Thai house, owned by a little old lady. But my electric is 2000 every month, I only use ac at night & a fridge then regular lights / phone charging. I feel like I’m paying for the other Thai houses that are at the back of me too😅.

But I really like my house, and even with this bill it’s cheaper than other rentals on this island. But it’s a bit of a p*ss off to pay so much when I don’t use it. Is there anything I can do in this situation, or is it just a suck it up scenario if I don’t move? She’s ignored messages saying the electric is very expensive

Hi, complete Thailand newbie here...

Live Qld

Plan on retiring in few years to Thailand, chang mai looks good

I plan a number of trip prior get lay of the land etc

And come 65 ish ( 3 years ) jump ship with the dog and the missus and go over for 3-4 months before I decide exactly where to put roots down but as said from what I read Chang Mai looks sweet

My questions are thus

1. I'm told if I move with a sense of permanency I need to put the equalivant of 37 grand Oz into bank ACC , 800000 Bhat this correct ?

2 . You can't buy outright a dwelling, you buy a long term lease ??

Lots more no doubt but taking bite size chunks this far

Regards and thanks

HCMC consulate~

Applied for soft power through Muay Thai and as unemployed, They are now requesting additional documents for proof of monthly income. The 6 months of bank statements I had already supply show proof of capital to support any one well beyond 5 years. Any one else come across this and have advise?

A small question from someone (me) who might possibly retire in Thailand one day: For a small condo, how much will I pay for electricity per month (using a/c)? And how much for water?

Thx.

Edit: My question was rather vague, I know 😂.

But I was just looking for a price RANGE - and I thank all of you for giving me that!!!🙏🙏🙏

Hi just want to ask if this plan is sound.

Background: UK passport holder, entered TH in Nov 2021. Arrived via sandbox on TR60 + 30 day extension, followed by 3 times Covid extension and a final Visa exemption after a trip to Malaysia. Left TH early Nov 22 back to UK.

Returning to TH mid Feb 23 on a METV and will start the B65k/month seasoning for 12 months. Appreciate the METV will get me at the maximum of 9 months with a few trips outside of TH, I can handle the last 3 months via other means. After 12 months of continuous deposits and trips outside TH, I will then apply for non-o based on being over 50.

Reason for 12 monthly deposits is that I can draw down on those funds and live, opposed to dropping 800k into a bank and deal with restrictive withdrawal levels.

Will this approach meet the requirements for future 12 months for retirement visa. TIA
