TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around budgeting for a one-month trip to Thailand, specifically Bangkok, while considering a mandatory quarantine period. Most responses suggest a minimum budget of around $3,000 to $6,000 total, covering airfare, quarantine hotel costs, COVID-19 insurance, and daily expenses. Recommendations vary greatly, with some suggesting very tight budgets of $10-20 per day for food and accommodation, while others recommend saving more to ensure comfort and safety. The posts emphasize the importance of saving more for emergencies and suggest travelers prepare for a different experience during the ongoing pandemic.

No chance your first 2 weeks in isolation will cost you 2000$ so only 2 weeks in Bangkok not worth it mate save your money for when the travel restrictions are lifted.
Rob ******
A 1 month visit will not really be worth it .

You will spend 19 days plus in quarantine .

I concer with David, the more you can save the better. As I don't know where you're flying from I can't guess the flight costs, but most people get all documents, flight, covid test, and budget ASQ for around $2400 USD.

If you're renting a condo for a month, it will be a bit cheaper than renting daily or weekly, so I'd budget $600 for an airbnb or budget serviced apartment.
David *********
Save as much as you can... what you spend you spend and what you dont you keep...

It will be all different for everybody... I mean are you going to eat street food for 50baht or want buffet seafood lunches at hotels for 800baht.

yes old and will give you a direct response that perhaps you don't like. I came here for work and needed to extend my trip and add a side trip to Krabi. I booked everything and calculated prices via websites. On a Samsung note 4 cellphone. It's not difficult, man. You're asking the wrong question. Just take action and voila you have a spreadsheet with your approximate budget figured out. If you want handholding before you arrive in Thailand you might struggle once you arrive. Lol πŸ˜‚

angry old men? Maybe just realistic. Do you have a spare room in your house? Why not just lock yourself in the room for two weeks and not talk to anyone. You will get the same experience for free. You don't need to go to Thailand to do it.

I wanna go meet a friend there , so 1 month plus 15 days for quarantine is more than enough, help me out with answering my questions, why are you bothering yourself to write stuff that doesn't concern me or you

I'd plan on $3000 to $4000 for the flight, but Paul would have 30 days to visit after the quarantine...maybe $7000 for the 45 days.......much wiser to defer travel until the Covid is under control
Paul *****************
Stay home better and wait for QurantΓ€ne free . After 15 Days QurantΓ€ne Pay 2500$ in Bangkok same Jail You have only 14 Days left for Holiday. Covid Insurance and Tests pay another 500$. Plus Flight 1000$. So You Need about 6000$ for have 14 Days Holiday.
Beverly **********
Thailand is great. But spending 15 days out of 30 locked in a hotel room might make your stay a little "different" than if you waited until the ASQ requirement ends (whenever that might be)

Why would you want to go now? Go somewhere else or wait a year or two. What would be the point of going there and doing a 14 day quarantine?

Can you go to any Thai Consulate or embassy to apply for a marriage visa. Or must you mail or email material I'm not in the USA, I'm in Dubai. I haven't returned to the US in a year.

Depending on the airfare and if your staying at hotels or with a friend all the Time.when you travel in the country you have to account for at least 50 per day Thailand is not that cheap anymore.if you eat rice simple noodles you can keep food about 10 dollars a day.5 dollars a day is not a holiday you will starve yourself.

Is this your first time in Thailand?

What part of Thailand will you live?

Will you be eating street food or restaurants?
David ********
Currently hotels in Bangkok vary from cheap to dirt cheap, depending on the area you're in. In the non-too-central areas a room for 400 baht can easily be found. If you're willing to stay in Bangkok for an entire month I suggest getting a furnished apartment though. For less than 10k you can find one for sure.

I am pretty budget-minded myself as I don't drink, eat Thai food daily and am not interested in women.

For me, even in BKK, 1500 baht a day would probably be enough, even when using the skytrain and subway.

Keep in mind monthly house rentals (at least in koh phangan) have dramatically decreased. You can find a bungalow for 3000-8000 baht utilities included depending. Pretty cheap.

The question of how much you should save up in just three months is pretty easy to answer. Everything you can save up in such a short time frame. You will need about US$3000 just to get here, with airfare, quarantine hotel, and covid-19 insurance, and, the longer you wait the more expensive the plane fare will cost. Once you get here you can get a hotel for 30 days for under US$300, but that will also require a deposit of the same. Food and transport will run about US$40 a day, with some days cheaper, and others more expensive. You also want about US$1500 in reserve in case anything happens, because most travel insurances you get require you paying, then they reemburse you, if anything happens. In round numbers you should have betweenUS$5000-US$6000, and you might have money left over for trinkets. Staying an additional month will only cost you about another $600 total. I live here comfortably on $1000 a month, with my wife.
Bob **********
All this is good advice but if it's your first time in Thailand save up for another year or two as people seem to loose there minds over here and it's not the place you want to be without money

any magnetic draws Thailand has or have do not exist right now

$1500-$2000 for ASQ HOTEL $600-$700 for Covid insurance flights RT maybe $1000 and living not partying and drinking no high end restaurants you could get by on $15-$20 a day and that's the minimum
Bob **********
Phil Jones you can show me a policy that covers you for $100,000 for $40 ?? Oh he did say a month still I'd like to know of that company I hope he knows he'll be in quarantine for the first 15 days
Niclas ***********
3000 USD always have some extra for emergency. If you don't spend it should be fine. If you go outside Bangkok less is needed excluding Phuket.
Oliver ********
200,000 baht including insurance, flights, quarantine, and normal day-to-day tourist spends (without alcohol). maybe less if your friend will accommodate and feed you. and more if you plan to stay in a 5-star hotel and eat at nice restaurants every day.
Oliver ********
Phil Jones more than half of that would be spent before he's even released from quarantine
Bob **********
Phil Jones very easy being a big shot in the gogos to spend 200,000 baht in one night just go to pin up and look at the wall

Try Airbnb you might better off

You can live on $10 a day buts that’s all you will do, $100 a day to have some comfort
Terary **********
Bare minimum

$5.00/day food wont be good but you wont starve

$10.00/shelter - wont be nice but you'll stay dry. Possibly cheaper but that requires some connections.

You'll have to do your own research of travel costs. I dont know going rate of plane tickets, visa, doctor's visits, etc etc.

I wouldn't advice a trip like this. Shit always goes sideways. If you bring 80% of what you need and something happens (need a taxi or something) Then you'll spend the rest of your trip in a poor state, making the trip unpleasant.

I would suggest a budget of

$20.00/day - 1 good meal plus some other cheap stuff and a couple of deserts, snacks, etc

$25.00/day - shelter - Not great but will have AC and probably quiet?

$50.00/day - walking around money (taxi - fun stupid little shit that makes traveling a little more fun).

With that budget you'll have a good time - but that doesn't cover the cost of booze and ladies.
Terary **********
2000 - all night (Pattaya)

It's easy enough for you to check airfare on Google. Quarantine hotel will run at least $1000 USD for the really low end, or more like $1500+ for normal Western quality. After quarantine, you can easily eat at food courts and get around on public transit for under $10 USD a day.
Mike *******
1 month is simply not worth it , the first 16 days are spent in quarantine hotel

well at the moment accommodation is very cheap, especially when booked for a month upfront, next week I move into a beach front private pool villa for Β£500 English, obviously if not going lady bars and stuff can live here very cheaply, impossible to really give budget advice though, what you might be able to eat and drink and enjoy is not necessarily the same as me, I like to have around Β£2000 English per month
