Hello! Me and my colleague just got our non b visa applications rejected in Penang. I'm pretty confused as to why mine got rejected. I brought my degree, passport and copies, transcripts, signed forms from my school, background check from the U.S., and photos. They told me I needed a Thai Background check when I got there (because I've been here for 3 months). They also said my U.S. background check was not legit, which it is. I'm very upset about it and wondering if this has happened to anyone else. My boss said this is the first time this has happened to any of his teachers. Thank you.

Stay ON topic people, this is about a person being rejected for a 90 day Non-Immigrant Type B application based on teaching at the thai consulate in Penang. It is NOT about ED visas :/

Amber, Did they take your documents or just flat out reject you on the ? I am in the same situation as you. Us citizen, been here 3 months, i have a criminal check from the usa, all of my paperwork expect the thai crimial check

One question: Why is it the last time you can enter and exit Thailand? Apply for the Tourist Visa while in Penang, come in and get 60 days, could even be extended with another 30 days and that gives you enough time to get the Police clearance from this web site:

Yes, from the description and the comments above it seems that your school was just not aware that a Thai police check would be needed together with the home country police check after a certain period of time spent on the territory of Thailand. They will now have to wait for you to get it done locally and also call the embassy to see if they can explain the faults they found with your US police clearance. It might be also worth trying your luck in a different embassy next time

They have already explained what you need. A Thai police record check. They are also not happy for some reason with your US back ground check.That's there requirement. That's the issue you need to deal with.

From what I know you criminal background checks need are only valid for 6months and need to be done in the country you are currently living.

I had to get a letter of intent from the school then take that to the Bangkok HQ to apply. Pay a small fee and have prints done. 2 weeks later can collect and give to the school. I couldn't get a non b without this however my non b was done within Thailand so I don't know ow if that makes it any different.

I had to get my background check done in Thailand. One from home wasn't enough as they are checking in you are not a criminal in Thailand. They scan your fingerprints here and 2 weeks later give you clearance.

I don't understand why they would crack down on it... if we don't have visas this Thai school won't have a 5th or 1st grade English teacher and there's no way they can replace us in a week. It's making them lose money from parents paying for an English program
