What are the possible reasons for a Thai visa application rejection?

Nov 30, 2024
a day ago
I'm feeling quite dissapointed to share that my visa application has been rejected in Ho Chi Minh. 😭

I submitted my application on November 24th, and by November 27th, the status changed to "waiting for approval." No additional documents were requested during this time. However, last night, I received an email stating, "Your visa application has been rejected."

do you lose the visa fee when you are rejected?

yes, unfortunately
Werner ************
Rejections will increase, Thailand Elite Visa is losing customers for DTV

From the comments I can assume you were rejected for using a Thai bank account. If I were you I’d take the hit on the 10k fee and apply again using a foreign bank account as proof of savings 👍

Thai bank account is fine. It may have been salary into Thai bank account though

yes, I think is that. I’m thinking, where do I try to re apply? I guess is not wise to do it again in Vietnam?😀
Greg ********
Anonymous participant Try Cambodia. Not heard much negative there. In last 3 days there have been rejections from Vietnam and asking for tax documents. Good luck.

ahhh makes sense, thanks Greg 👍

Problem is no one knows for sure the reason for refusal. If you guess and reapply elsewhere you risk further disappointment (not to mention expense). If it was me I would, most respectfully of course, ask for clarification on the reason for refusal as it would provide most helpful guidance upon how to comply with their criteria in future.

Thank you for your advice. I suppose you’re right; this rejection has made me very sad, and I still don’t know the exact reason. Honestly, I just want to ensure that everything is in order and as they require. I have already reached out to them for more details regarding the rejection, but I haven’t received a reply yet.
Huỳnh *****************
Maybe typo of your name. When I uploaded the passport, it automatically changed the order the my name.

looks like if there is mismatch they mention it in the email

Based on comments my only thought is that you’ve supplied proof of income through the Thai bank account which is an automatic rejection even without much human review.

I have extensive history living in Thailand so I don’t think it’s that either. It’s probably the bank stuff

looks like, how many years did you stay in Thailand before applying for DTV?

Andreas *********
The reason is the Thai bank account you are sending your salary to, this could have been the red flag.

The DTV is a tourist visa class, and you can't even open a bank account on a DTV (only when going through an agent).

You should have said that you withdraw living expenses on a Thai ATM using your foreign credit card. And the 500.000.- THB should have been on a foreign bank account

@Andreas ********
that has nothing to do with it i would assume, many other people used a thai bank account in my application and had 0 issues, fastest visa ive ever received actually. Sending your working salary directly to a Thai bank account not the greatest idea though, if it went through your home bank and then to Thailand, 0 issues with that.

Yes, I have been looking into that. There are people who have applied using Thai bank accounts. It’s clear that my application showed I am not visiting Thailand for the first time and that this is where I spend my funds. Honestly, this is the only bank account I have with a strong transaction history over the past six months, so I didn’t see any issue with that. However, regarding my salary, perhaps it was a mistake to highlight that. I’m not sure. On the contrary, I thought it would be a good proof of my stable income from my company.
Andreas *********
@Andrew ******
oka,y I have reworded my response
Andrew *******
@Andreas ********
but just for the record, the 500,000 in Thai account probably was not the red flag imo as so many have used that method for the DTV. Salary would be most likely, but who knows maybe he simply entered the wrong info.
Anonymous *************
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Andrew ******
yes, I believe I shouldn’t mention any salary at all.
Andi ***********
@Andreas ********
Agree...salary into a Thai Bank Account a major red flag
Paul *********
Is it possible that having a salary going to a Thai bank indicates you were already living and working in thailand without a permit
Anonymous *************
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Paul ********
salary was from company outside of Thailand, and the company doesn’t have anything in common with Thailand. I think is ok to be a tourist or even a student and running your own company outside of the Thailand. For that no need work permit?
Greg ********
Anonymous participant Technocally running that business needed a WP before the advent of the DTV. That it was not really enforced is another matter.
Jirka ********
@Paul ********
you can open bang account like a tourist too, without agent
Luit *****************
@Jirka *******
normally not possible to open bank account for tourists
David ********
@Luit ****************
that's not true. If you try to open in a tourist area they will say not they want you to use an agent so they scam you
Luit *****************
@David *******
You might be true about that, but that does not change the fact that it is normally not possible to open a bank account with a tourist visa, in Bangkok they just ask you to show the visa, and when they see DTV, they say no.

In other non touristic places the same most times happens because they are not used to have foreign customers, and what they don't know, they won't do.

But maybe I will try again sometime, because it would be convenient sometimes to have a Thai account, but it is nothing more than just a nice to have.

Wise and Revolut and European bank account with creditcard works pretty well.
David ********
@Luit ****************
again not true l opened 3 banks accounts all on tourist visa. Cost nothing except my time and talking with p

Bank officer explaining why l needed the account and having correct paperwork at the time. You are talking about Bangkok not sure but what l read here it's difficult there remember bkk had so many customers so maybe they don't want your business. Thai banks are not like banks back home they are like franchises individually run. Pattaya Phuket are also difficult they rely on agents so the scam.mine are big from provinces that l have lived in and never had an issue
Luit *****************
@David *******
We can discuss about what is true and what is not true.

That brings us nowhere.

Facts are that the number of times you just can walk in and open an account are far less than the number of times you will hear "no".

It is not forbidden to open an account, and you also not open the accoun "on a visa", but it is also not possible to open in a normal way in a lot of places.

Maybe I will try again now I live in Songkhla now I live there at the moment, but it also has no priority, because not much advantages.
Jirka ********
@Luit ****************
so why i have 2 banks? One open only by stamp and second by tourist? 😊 just try more branches in small city, not big tourist place. Easy open.
Andreas *********
@Paul ********
exactly. That was the reason. He shouldn't have show them that he already has a Thai bank account, and worse even that he already remitted money onto it. A DTV is a tourist visa class, and you can't even open a bank account on a DTV (only when going through an agent). He can theoretically withdraw living expenses on a Thai ATM using a foreign credit card.
Wesley ********
@Andreas ********
I showed that I already had a bank account in Thailand, and they did require me to interview about it. But since it was all above board, taxes paid, it was ok.

the one line rejected I got from the embassy’s automated system did say the reason was about typo in passport information.

I just said rejected? got a screenshot?

@Jean-Maurice *******
I was rejected for this same reason. Seems that the autofill function is not working properly when the Biodata page is uploaded but the website also clearely states that "we must check the details ourselves before submission". I emailed but received no reply and was advised by this group that the only action I could take was to re-apply which I did under Remote worker. I am currently awaiting and hoping for approval after being requested for further documents submission
Rogerio ******
@Darcy ***********
I got denied TWICE back to back on a tourist visa (and lost the fees) because I had an extra duplicate number on the passport field that i missed ..twice.
Jean-Maurice ********
@Darcy ***********
yeah I reapplied and was eventually approved back in september but that second application I had a magnifying glass over that whole application. so scary to hit submit the second time
Darcy ************
@Jean-Maurice *******
🤣🤣😆😆 yes EXACTLY!! I agree 100% with the "checking everything 10 times part". I screenshot every page in the event it was rejected for the same reason. I wouldn't say I am upset over paying two application fees but I feel some form of improvement needs to be made to that part of the website

Анонимный участник 255 For location I have submitted stamp and Airbnb booking, for Financial certificate from the Thai bank with ending balance of 500k, 6 month statements , for past 3 month the ending balance was over 500k. Also highlighted salary transactions to my Thai bank from my company outside of Thailand. I saw that requirement in some other embassies, so I made sure I have proof of income to my bank account. For work: company registration company, cover letter of me and what I am doing and how I am managing my job online. Also I have attached labor contact, saying that I have a position of director with salary, I added some invoices from the customers as well, showing that company is legit and working.

I had been staying in Thailand on an ED visa, and my most recent visa was a tourist visa. During my time there, I have been receiving funds from my Hong Kong company for my living expenses. I have reached out to them to inquire about the reason for the rejection, and I will wait for their response. I just want to understand what I may have submitted incorrectly. 🤔

Anonymous participant they also have insta accounts. i contacted the new york consulate and they responded immediately and i ask questions thru message on insta. i would def find out why, and it could have been a mistake or misunderstanding. if its thru workcation, then maybe submit a soft power set of documents but ask first if that’s ok. that’s what i did. i was declined thru remote work; i messaged the IG page and asked if i can submit proof of fighting class enrollment and they said yes so i did and waiting to hear back
